Presented with a movie, meal, medicines and a $20 cash handout, Cambodia’s cyclo taxi drivers received a rare treat at the weekend, and a brief distraction from hard times as the coronavirus takes a toll on tourism. Cambodia Records Yellow Breasted Bunting at Boeung Prek Lapauw Protected Landscape

The critical endangered Yellow Breasted Bunting has been reconfirmed recording in Boeung Prek Lapouv, a Landscape Protection Area in a large wetland in the Lower Mekong Delta, located in Borey Chulsar and Koh Andet districts of Takeo province. Cambodia announces Angkor Half Marathon and Cycling Championship in Jan

Siem Reap province will reorganize the National Cycling Championship and the 25th Angkor International Half Marathon this month after the postponement due to the COVID-19 crisis. The update was shared yesterday by Mr. Nou Chamroeun, Secretary-General of Cambodian Cycling Federation, adding that the 2020 National Cycling Championship will take place on Jan. 23, and the Angkor International Half Marathon 2020 on Jan. 24. The events aim to engage people with sports for their health, friendship, and solidarity, and to mobilize funds for humanitarian activities. Cambodia Association of Travel Agents sign MoU with Indian firm

The Cambodia Association of Travel Agents (CATA) has signed a memorandum of understanding with India’s SRAM & MRAM to increase the flow of tourists between the countries. The MoU was signed on Wednesday by Chay Sivlin, president of CATA, and Sailesh Lachu Hiranandani, SRAM & MRAM director. SRAM & MRAM Group is a conglomerate with branches in Cambodia, South Africa, Indonesia, Malaysia, Bahrain, Georgia, and Bangladesh. Emirates to link Phnom Penh and Bangkok with daily service from Dubai

Emirates said it will link Phnom Penh (PNH) and Bangkok (BKK) with a new daily service set to launch on June 1, 2019. The service from Dubai to Phnom Penh, via Bangkok, will provide passengers travelling between the capital cities of Cambodia and Thailand with more flight options. The new service will be operated with an Emirates Boeing 777 aircraft. Flights to Phnom Penh will depart daily from Dubai International Airport (DXB) at 08.45 hrs local time, as EK370, and arrive in Bangkok at 18.15 hrs. China contribute to tourism growth of Asia-Pacific regions

Number of overnight stay travellers in China had gone up 2.5 per cent during 2017, compared with 2016, reaching 60.7 million.  Meanwhile, around 140 million outbound trips are recorded during 2018, depicting an increase of 11 million from 2017. It said that international visitors bound for China accounted for nearly 20 per cent of all travellers and 8.4 per cent of the tourism revenue generated in the Asia-Pacific region. It ... Read more

Cambodia seeks private partnership to boost tourism

Cambodia government envisages a new programme to facilitate cooperation between the government and members of the private sector to enhance tourism development. The government has formulated a Board on Tourism Marketing and Promotion, which seeks to strengthen the promotion of Cambodia as a tourism destination abroad. The new body is composed of 15 members and is chaired by Thong Khon, Minister of Tourism. Half of the members will be from government agencies and the other half from the private sector. Nepal and Cambodia sign agreement for 14 weekly flights

Cambodia and Nepal signed their first air service agreement (ASA), which allows 14 weekly flights between both countries, according to Cambodia’s State Secretariat of Civil Aviation (SSCA). The agreement was made during Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen’s official three-day visit to Kathmandu, Nepal last week, during which he also attended the Asia-Pacific Summit. “Nepal has become the 45th country to have an ASA with Cambodia. Passengers travel to Nepal currently needs to make a connecting flight to Thailand, Malaysia or Singapore” said  Sinn Chanserey Vutha, SSCA spokesman. Cambodia and Thailand agree to cooperate in marine tourism

Design of Kampot International Tourism Port, Cambodia Cambodia and Thailand have inked an agreement to cooperate on marine tourism, linking the tourism ports of the two countries. The agreement has come in to being during the 4th meeting of Cambodia-Thailand Working Group on Tourism Cooperation. Thong Rathsak, Cambodia’s Director General of Tourism Development and International Cooperation and Arrun Boonchai ,Thai Permanent Secretary of Ministry of Tourism and Sports co-chaired the meeting. Tourism Vacation Town – China’s luxury city in Cambodia

China is going to build a ‘luxury city’named ‘Tourism Vacation Town’ in Cambodia with a cost of USD 1.2 Billion. With this project, China is said to be extending its influence in the south-east Asian countries. Chinese developer Tianjin Union Development Group (UDG) says Tourism Vacation Town will feature high-end hotels, offices and theme parks on 1,200 hectares of land in Cambodia’s south-western Koh Kong province. First international tourism port is coming up in Cambodia

Indians prefer long-haul foreign tourist attractions this summer: Report

With summer vacations fast approaching, most Indians are planning to head to long-haul international destinations with booking going up by 25 per cent compared to last year, said a report published by online travel company MakeMyTrip. About 50 per cent of the bookings are made by travellers in the 25-35 age group, says the report. “Long-haul destinations have registered higher growth this year compared to short-haul ones, with a significant 25 percent growth in the number of trips year-on-year,” said Mohit Gupta, chief operating officer, MakeMyTrip.
