Kerala to be the first state to implement UNWTO’s ‘Tourism for All’
Tourism Minister Kadakampally Surendran addressing the gathering Kerala Tourism has launched the first phase of its ambitious Barrier-free Kerala tourism project on 4th March 2019, making 70 destinations across the state disabled and elderly friendly, becoming the first state in India to implement UN World Tourism Organization’s call for ‘Tourism for All. A scuba diver with a difference
Neeraj, a man of confidence, is a regular traveler and fond of trekking. He has won many accolades at international events. He was diagnosed with cancer in the foot early in life, and doctors suggested amputation to prevent the spread of the disease. "But that has not really hampered my dedication or determination. I love it outdoors and I have always pushed the limits. My disability does not prevent me from enjoying life or doing something adventurous.” says Neeraj.
Barrier-free tourism kick starts in Kerala
Kerala is going to be the first 100 per cent accessible friendly tourism destination in the world. The concept of differently-abled friendly tourism will be materialized through the new project – Barrier Free Kerala Tourism, which kick started on 27th June 2017. Tourism Minister Kadakampalli Surender has lighted the lamp of the project, which will enable the differently-abled people to fulfill their desire to visit any of the tourist destinations of Kerala, which was only a dream before. ആലുവ സ്വദേശി നീരജ് ജോർജിന് നീന്തലറിയില്ല . ആഴമുള്ളിടം കണ്ടാൽത്തന്നെ തല കറങ്ങും.നന്നേ ചെറുപ്പത്തിലേ കാൻസർ വന്ന് ഒരു കാൽ മുറിച്ചുമാറ്റി . എന്നാൽ നീരജിന്റെ നിശ്ചയദാർഢ്യത്തിന് ഇവയൊന്നും തടസമായില്ല. കടലിന്റെ അടിത്തട്ടിലേക്ക് നീരജ് ഊളിയിട്ടു. വർണമത്സ്യങ്ങളേയും കടൽ സസ്യങ്ങളേയും പവിഴപ്പുറ്റുകളേയും കൺ നിറയെ കണ്ടു. കടൽക്കാഴ്ചകളുടെ കുളിരിൽ നിന്നും തിരകളുടെ മേൽത്തട്ടിലേക്ക് ഉയർന്നു വന്നപ്പോൾ നീരജ് പറഞ്ഞു – അവിശ്വസനീയം. ഭിന്നശേഷി സൗഹൃദ ടൂറിസത്തിന്റെ ചുവട് പിടിച്ച് കോവളത്തുള്ള ബോണ്ട് സഫാരിയാണ് നീരജ് ജോര്‍ജിനെ കടലൊളിപ്പിച്ച കാഴ്ച്ച കാണാൻ കൊണ്ടു പോയത്. വിധിക്കു മുന്നിൽ തോറ്റു കൊടുക്കാൻ നീരജ് ഒരിക്കലും തയ്യാറായിട്ടില്ല. രാജ്യാന്തര പാരാ ബാഡ്മിന്റൺ താരമാണ്. ട്രെക്കിംഗ് ഇഷ്ട ഹോബിയുമാണ്. കേരളത്തിലെ പ്രധാന ട്രെക്കിംഗ് സ്ഥലങ്ങളൊക്കെ നീരജ് താണ്ടിയിട്ടുണ്ട്. അംഗ പരിമിതി ഒരിക്കലും ഭാരമായി തോന്നിയിട്ടില്ലന്ന് അഡ്വ. ജനറൽ ഓഫീസിലെ ജീവനക്കാരനായ നീരജ് പറയുന്നു. സാഹസികതയിലാണ് താൽപ്പര്യം. അതുകൊണ്ടാണ് വെള്ളത്തിനെ ഭയക്കുന്ന നീന്തലറിയാത്ത ഞാന്‍ ഈ സാഹസം ചെയ്യാന്‍ ... Kerala bets big on accessible tourism
Kerala Tourism, prominent for its innovative ideas for the development of tourism, planning to launch yet another programme named ‘Barrier-free Kerala Tourism,’ which aims to convert the State into a 100 per cent-accessible friendly tourist destination by 2021.The project will be carried out by the Department of Tourism in cooperation with Responsible Tourism (RT) mission, Kerala Tourism Minister Kadakkampally Surendran will inaugurate the commencement of the work of the 'Barrier-Free Kerala Tourism' project on 27 June. An 'Accessible tourism' workshop will also be held the same day in which public-private players in the tourism sector are expected to participate.
