Tiger reserves to be closed during monsoon – Project Tiger Directive
Anup Kumar Nayak, The Project Tiger’s Additional Director General, has sent an advisory to the states to stop tourism in tiger reserves during the monsoon season. The advisory was the second reminder for the one issued in 2015, directing the closure of tiger reserve during monsoon (July-September). “This directive and a subsequent reminder on July 12, 2017 have not yielded any response from most states, I am to reiterate that the 2015 directive should be followed in letter and spirit in the interest of tiger conservation,” Nayak’s advisory reads. പ്രകൃതിയേയും പ്രകൃതിയൊരുക്കുന്ന സാഹസിക കാഴ്ച്ചകളേയും ഇഷ്ടപ്പെടുന്നവര്‍ക്ക് പറ്റിയ സ്ഥലമാണ് ബന്ദിപ്പൂര്‍ നാഷണല്‍ പാര്‍ക്ക്‌. 800 സ്‌ക്വയര്‍ കിലോമീറ്ററാണ് ഈ ദേശീയോദ്യാനത്തിന്‍റെ വിസ്തൃതി. വന്യമായ നിശബ്ദതയാണ് ഇവിടുത്തെ പ്രത്യേകത. 1931ല്‍ മൈസൂര്‍ മഹാരാജാവാണ് ഇതിനെ നാഷണല്‍ പാര്‍ക്കാക്കി മാറ്റിയത്. മൈസൂർ രാജാക്കന്മാർക്ക് സ്വകാര്യമായി വേട്ടയാടാനുണ്ടായിരുന്ന കാടായിരുന്നു ബന്ദിപ്പൂർ. അന്ന് 90 സ്‌ക്വയര്‍ കിലോമീറ്റര്‍ വിസ്തൃതിയെ പാര്‍ക്കിനുണ്ടായിരുന്നുള്ളു. മൈസൂർ കൊട്ടാരത്തിൽ നിന്നും ഒന്നര മണിക്കൂറാണ് ഇങ്ങോട്ടുള്ള ദൂരം പാര്‍ക്കിന് ചുറ്റുമായി നാഗൂര്‍, കബിനി, മൊയാര്‍ എന്നീ നദികളൊഴുകുന്നുണ്ട്. കടുവ, ആന, കാട്ടുനായകള്‍, പുള്ളിപ്പുലി, മലയണ്ണാന്‍, കൃഷ്ണമൃഗം, കരടി തുടങ്ങി പലതരം മൃഗങ്ങളുടെ ആവാസകേന്ദ്രമാണിവിടം. ഒപ്പം പക്ഷികളുമുണ്ട്. രാവിലെ പത്തുമണിയ്ക്കും വൈകിട്ട് 6നുമിടയിലാണ് കാടുകാണാന്‍ അനുവദിക്കുക. ആവശ്യമുള്ളവര്‍ക്ക് കാട്ടിലൂടെയുള്ള സഫാരിയും ബുക്ക്‌ ചെയ്യാം. ചിത്രങ്ങള്‍ :നസീര്‍ ഹുസൈന്‍ കിഴക്കേടത്ത്
A magical ride on Gundlupet-Bandipur route
Arya Aravind Though I have visited Wayanad, in Kerala, more than a dozen times, I have never travelled to the outskirts on the Gundlupet-Bandipur route. It was not a purposeful avoidance; since my travel were all unplanned, one or the other problems come in between from making me go beyond the Wayanad circle.
