Assam launches monsoon tourism campaign
The Assam government is planning to promote ‘Monsoon Tourism’ to woo tourists from across the country, in a move expected to give some impetus to the state’s tourism sector hit hard by the COVID-19 pandemic. The trip can be a quick relief for many in the north of India, suffering from the extreme heat. Assam Tourism will promote Chandubi in Kamrup district, Chandrapur in Kamrup metro district and Pabitra and Mayong in Morigaon district as part of the plan. Assam’s travel and tourism sector had to initially grapple with curfew and violence during the anti-CAA protests in December. And now the coronavirus pandemic has given it another body blow. Tourism in Assam has been battered so much this season (October to April) that those depending on it now fear massive jobs losses in the sector, without urgent financial assistance from the government. Incessant power supply progrmme for major tourist places in Assam
Assam government envisages 24×7 power supply to seven tourist spots in the State and sanctioned a sum of Rs 30 crore for the project. However, due to non-release of funds the scheme is yet to be started. Sualkuchi Weaver Village Entrance Under the project the State Power Department was to ensure incessant power supply to tourist hotspots, such as Kaziranga, Kamakhya, Sualkuchi, Tezpur, Manash, Pobitora and Majuli. New bridge over Demow River to boost tourism in Assam
Model of the bridge over Demow River Assam state government has announced construction of a bridge at Samarjan over Demow River in Thowra Legislative Assembly Constituency to boost tourism in Sivasagar. The bridge is expected to be completed in the current fiscal year with an estimated cost of Rs 7 crore. A’Chai Bar’is coming up at Guwahati Tea Auction Centre

The tea lounge will have a tea restaurant which will offer teas like CTC, orthodox, second flush and specialty teas and various others. The lounge will be called ‘Chai Bar’. Assam’s tourism revenue doubled in 2017
Assam’s tourism revenue has almost doubled in 2017-18, when compared to the earnings in 2016-17. The profit (before tax) of the corporation has almost doubled from Rs 2.24 crore in 2016-17 to Rs 4.22 crore in 2017-18. “The inflow of domestic and foreign tourists has gone up noticeably and the occupancy of hotels, even in the off-season, has increased by about 20 per cent.
