Assam is having the first train of Indian Railways to be fully branded with a state government publicity campaign. The 12552/12251 Kamakhya-Yesvantpur- Kamakhya AC Express became the first Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) train to be used for promoting the brand ‘Awesome Assam’ of the Assam Tourism Department. The train was flagged off by tourism minister Chandan Brahm and chairperson of the Assam Tourism Development Corporation (ATDC) Jayanta Malla Baruah in presence NFR officials at Kamakhya Railway Station on 27th February 2019. IIE Officials at the press meeting at Guwahati (Picture Courtesy: Manash Das) Indian Institute of Entrepreneurship (IIE) is organizing ‘North East Adventure Tourism Festival’ at Bogamati in Baksa district of Assam, from 13th to 16th September 2018. Assam’s tourism revenue has almost doubled in 2017-18, when compared to the earnings in 2016-17. The profit (before tax) of the corporation has almost doubled from Rs 2.24 crore in 2016-17 to Rs 4.22 crore in 2017-18. “The inflow of domestic and foreign tourists has gone up noticeably and the occupancy of hotels, even in the off-season, has increased by about 20 per cent. The Assam Tourism ad featuring the state’s brand ambassador Priyanka Chopra, has been nominated for an award which is considered to be the ‘Oscar for Ad Films’. The Assam Tourism Development Corporation (ATDC) has decided to fund a new feature film ‘Unread Pages’ directed by Jahnu Barua. The first film under the state tourism policy will be produced jointly by Hollywood-based Ivanhoe Pictures and Mumbai-based Easterly Entertainment. The film’s main aim is to give exposure to the scenic beauty of Assam on an international platform.
