To give a boost to the flood-ravaged tourism industry of the state, the Union Ministry of Tourism will organize a ‘Cultural Festival of India’ at Thekkinkadu Maidanam, Thrissur and Amal Jyothi Engineering College, Kanjirappally. The festival at Thrissur, the cultural capital of Kerala, will be held on February 23, 2019. Art forms of 10 states, including Kerala will be staged on the occasion, in which around 150 artists from different parts of the state are expected to participate. The 150-km long Gavi – Vagamon – Thekkadi tourism project, which was sanctioned in 2015, is all ready and will be inaugurated on February 17, 2019. “The work on the Gavi – Vagamon – Thekkadi tourism project has been completed at a cost of Rs 76.55 crore and its inauguration will be held on February 17. A project for a spiritual circuit connecting 133 shrines across the state will be launched on February 16,” said Union Minister for Tourism K J Alphons. Payippadan has become the fastest snake boat (Chundan vallam) and winner in the 66th edition of the Nehru Trophy Boat Race (NTBR), which has taken place at Punnamada lake in Alappuzha today, 10th November 2018. The 66th edition of the Nehru Trophy Boat Race (NTBR) took place at the Punnamada lake in Alappuzha on 10th November 2018. Around 81 boats, including 25 snakeboats, made a splash on Punnamada Lake. The event gave the much-needed impetus to the flood-ravaged backwater tourism sector. Kerala Governor P Sathasivam has inaugurated the event in the presence of Kerala ministers and other dignitaries. Incredible India is conducting roadshow in China’s Beijing. “China has one of the biggest tourist inflows with 144 million outbound tourists last year. India received only 250,000 of that and, with an aim to increase the footfalls, we are conducting big-time roadshow in China,” said Tourism Minister, K J Alphons. The minister is currently visiting Beijing with 20 leading Indian travel agents for the first event of a series of road shows held by the Tourism Ministry, Government of India. The central government is taking all measures to attract more Chinese tourists to the country. The Tourism Ministry has planned a series of roadshows, a dedicated tourist office, and is also training Mandarin-speaking guides to attract more Chinese tourists. The ministry is also planning to host Chinese media in India for the purpose. “Tourist arrivals from China will be our major focus area in the coming months.
