Kedar Jadhav Indian cricket team all-rounder Kedar Jadhav will be the chief guest in the first-ever house boat rally to be taken place in Alappuzha on 2nd November 2018. A port museum is coming up in Alappuzha to pep up tourism
Alappuzha, the Venice of the East, is going to have a port-museum at the beach, depicting the city’s glorious history and heritage. Primary discussions regarding the museum master plan has been conducted at the Alappuzha port office. Ramachandran Kadannappally, Minister for Ports and Museums, inaugurated the function. The meeting was presided by Thomas Issac, Finance Minister of Kerala. The new initiative is part of the comprehensive programmes to make Alappuzha the heritage tourism city of Kerala. DTPC organizes boat rally in Alappuzha on 2nd November 2018
In order to convey the message that Alappuzha is ready to receive tourists to its backwaters, the Alappzuha District Tourism Promotion Council is organizing a campaign with the tag line ‘Back to Backwaters’. The authorities are planning to have boat rally from the finishing point of the Nehru trophy boat race. The date of the rally is 2nd November 2018. Earlier the event was scheduled on 5th October, but postponed due to unfavourable weather conditions. Nehru Trophy boat race to be held on Nov 10
The 66th edition of the Nehru Trophy boat race will be held on November 10, Finance Minister T M Thomas Isaac has said. The decision was taken at a meeting of the Nehru Trophy Boat Race Society (NTBRS) held at the collectorate in Alappuzha today. “We have decided to organise the boat race in November. This will help to revive the flood-hit tourism sector and Kuttanad,” the minister said. Houseboat terminal-cum-hub is coming up at Kadamakudy, Kochi
Houseboat industry of Kerala, mostly concentrated in Alappuzha and Kottayam districts, is spreading its focus to other regions such as Eranakulam and Malabar. The Ernakulam District Tourism Promotion Council (DTPC) has sought the permission from the authorities to set up a houseboat terminal-cum-hub on Kadamakudy Island. “They can also operate from DTPC’s boat terminal at Marine Drive. The Chittoor-Cheranalloor route and the water body on the north western parts of the city are ideal to operate and berth them. Kerala postpones Nehru Trophy Boat race
As torrential rain lashes Kerala, the tourism department has decided to postpone the Nehru Trophy boat race, which was scheduled on Saturday (Aug 11) at Punnamada lake in Alappuzha. The tourism department has made the announcement considering the risk from the heavy rain and flood. Cricket legend Sachin Tendulkar was invited as the chief guest of the event. About 78 boats will contest in different categories in the race this time. Twenty five chundan vallams (snakeboats) will participate in the 66th edition of the boat race. ATTOI extends its hands to flood victims in Kuttanad
Association of Tourism Trade Organization of India (ATTOI) has been pursuing its relief activities in the flood affected Kuttanad. Recently ATTOI has distributed drinking water to the relief camps in Kuttanad. As a follow-up action, ATTOI team have visited the flooded areas and the relief camps for the second time.
