Tanzania expects 2 million tourists by 2020; Conducts roadshow in Delhi
With an aim to position Tanzania as a favourite destination in India, the Tanzania Tourist Board organised a roadshow in New Delhi to showcase its diverse tourism offerings. “Tourism is the number one foreign currency earner in Tanzania. The total contribution of travel and tourism to GDP is 17.2 per cent and is forecast to rise by 6.6 per cent in 2025. In 2017, tourism contribution to direct and indirect employment measured over one lakh jobs. This is expected to rise by 2.7 per cent in 2025,” said TTB Managing Director, Devota Mdachi. Air Tanzania plans direct flight to Mumbai by year end
Air Tanzania is all set to introduce direct flight connectivity between Mumbai and Julius Nyerere by year end. The airline is planning to begin its international operations through this service, said Baraka H Luvanda, High Commissioner of the United Republic of Tanzania. The flight, proposed to operate thrice a week, is waiting for permissions from the government to complete the formalities of launching its first international route. “This new flight will not only assist the tourism industry, but will also be helpful for other industries to speed up their businesses in both countries,” he said.
