Air India said it will now offer boxes with packed items such as cookies or peanuts instead of samosas and sandwiches that were served on flights of less than an hour’s duration. The national carrier is reported to have got multiple complaints of the samosas and sandwiches being spoilt and the new move to offer packed dry fruits will stop such episodes. After four long months, the Agra-Jaipur flight of Air India will start flying again from July 16th albeit at a changed time. The flight will be operating four days a week. The flight will be operated on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday. The flight will take off from Jaipur at 6:50 am and land in Agra at 8 am. The return flight will take off from Agra at 8:30 am and land in Jaipur at 9:30 am. Air India’s newly launched New Delhi-Tel Aviv flight services has got an overwhelming response from passengers, and, following this, the national carrier has announced an increase in frequency on this sector, adding a fourth flight a week starting 14th July. Air India has announced that it has revised the excess baggage charges by Rs 100 per kg to Rs 500 for domestic travels from June 11, 2018. As of now, the airline charges Rs 400 per kg for excess baggage. India’s booming tourism industry is aided by the transportation services in a great way. A meeting was held between Union Tourism Minister K.J. Alphons, Minister of Civil Aviation Suresh Prabhu and Minister of State for Civil Aviation Jayanta Sinha, along with the officials of both ministries for creating better air connectivity of tourist destinations in order to heighten the tourism sector. As part of its expansion plans to reach out to European countries, Air India is planning to start a direct flight from Mumbai to Frankfurt from June. The airline is likely to operate thrice a week from Mumbai and depart for Frankfurt in the morning hours. Air India currently operates a regular flight on the Delhi-Frankfurt route. Air India flies directly to destinations such as Stockholm, Madrid, Vienna, Paris, London, Rome, Birmingham and Milan in Europe. Major aviation consultancy, Centre for Asia Pacific Aviation (CAPA) has urged the Central government to make the process of Air India Privatization investor-friendly otherwise it might soon shut down. CAPA, through its Twitter account said that “CAPA estimates AI headed for 2-year losses of USD1.5-2.0 bn in FY19/FY20. Failure to divest could see AI close unless govt willing to spend taxpayer funds. Far less costly to make offer more attractive to investors”. Air India said it is introducing a direct flight from Amritsar to Bangkok starting from May 14, as part of its efforts to increase and augment services on key routes. The flight from Amritsar to Bangkok would operate on Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Fridays. Indian automotive manufacturing company Tata and Singapore Airline’s (SIA) joint venture company Vistara Airlines has joined, International Air Transport Association (IATA). With the new programme, Vistara aims to launch international operations by the end of June. Currently, Air India and Jet Airways are the two Indian carriers who were part of IATA. Authorities with the new membership focus on empowering Vistara to join up with other international airline companies, for providing a seamless global connectivity. Air India resumes its direct flight linking industrial town of Durgapur in West Bengal with Delhi after a gap of nearly 22 months. The flight AI-756, with a 122-seater Airbus A319 aircraft, will leave Durgapur at 08:25 am and arrive at Delhi at 10:35 am. In a bizarre incident, former civil aviation minister Ashok Gajapathi Raju’s baggage was left at the New Delhi airport, prior to a baggage clearance by airport security staff. The incident happened while Ashok Gajapathi Raju was commuting to Visakhapatnam on an Air India flight. According to airport officials, the former minister’s luggage wasn’t loaded, as part of a slow movement of baggage belt at the Delhi airport. Meanwhile, the baggage was taken back on an IndiGo flight, soon after the scheduled Air India flight left with Ashok Gajapathi.
