Celebrating Women Bikers: Empowerment through Exploration
India’s Ministry of Tourism, under the Dekho Apna Desh series, organised its 40th webinar titled “Women of India – Shifting Gears” outlining the thrills of women biking. The webinar session was held by two women bike enthusiasts of India – Jai Bharathi who is an avid motorcyclist, travel enthusiast and co-founder of MoWo (Moving Women), a social initiative encouraging women to travel on motorcycles; and Candida Louis, a biker, blogger, storyteller and motorcycle tour guide. Kerala to issue guidelines, BIS certification for adventure tourism
In a first such initiative in the country, Kerala Tourism will be implementing guidelines and a certification scheme from Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) to promote more systematic approach and safety in adventure tourism. The procedural guidelines for registration are under consideration of the state government and is expected to come into force by October. BIS will be joining hands with Kerala Tourism to launch the new certification scheme, which is meant to comply with safety and security standards. 137 Indian peaks opened to foreigners for mountaineering and trekking
The Government has opened 137 mountain peaks for foreigners desirous of obtaining Mountaineering Visa (‘MX’) for mountaineering and trekking. These peaks are located in the States of Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand and Sikkim. While the highest number of 51 peaks have been opened to foreigners in Uttarakhand, 15 peaks of Jammu and Kashmir have also been included in the list. The fifth edition of International Mountain Cycling Contest has concluded at Wayanad in Kerala on December 8. MTB Kerala-2018 has concluded at the Priyadarshini Tea Estate in Mananthavady.
