China to spent 1.1 trillion over defence
China is on a new mission to double strengthen their defence system through investing 1.1 trillion Yuan, which marks a budget of over $173 billion dollars. Asian nations hold the world’s most powerful passports
Japan and Singapore are now the world’s most powerful passports, according to the Henley Passport Index. They’ve knocked Germany off the top spot, with visa-free access to 179 destinations. India was given the 81st spot with visa-free-access to 56 countries, as per the index. South Korea holds third place in the rankings, alongside Denmark, Finland, France, Italy, Spain and Sweden. It’s passport holders have visa-free access to 178 destinations. UK has dropped down to 4th place, but it still provides its citizens with visa-free access to 177 destinations. China excels in Outbound Tourism
China, the most populous country in the world, had around 130 million outbound travellers in 2017, according to reports published by China’s prominent travel expert, Ctrip and China Tourism Academy. Tourists from China had spent around 111.5 billion US dollars for their holidays, that was 5 per cent more while comparing with the data from 2016. Pakistani passport ranked fourth worst for international travel
The Pakistani passport has been ranked among the five worst passports for international travel, according to a new report, the Henley Passport Index published in February 2018. Pakistan, which has visa free access to only 30 countries, is ranked 102 over 105 countries, while Afghanistan, Iraq and Syria are below Pakistan. However, Pakistan is ranked number one adventure travel destination. “The Shape of Water” was the big winner at the 90th Annual Academy Awards picking up four Oscars. The feature won best picture award and best director for Guillermo del Toro. Residents and tourists to Downtown Dubai witnessed spectacular shows in ‘pink’ at The Dubai Fountain. Shams Emaar, the corporate social responsibility team of Emaar Properties, decided to turn the colour of all shows, set by Burj Khalifa and The Dubai Mall, to pink, in a gesture to enhance awareness of breast cancer. Dubai Airports welcomes inaugural SaudiGulf flight
Dubai Airports welcomed the inaugural flight of SaudiGulf Airlines at Dubai International’s (DXB) Terminal 1 with a traditional water salute followed by a cake cutting ceremony. SaudiGulf will operate double daily flights between the Saudi capital of Riyadh and Dubai. Riyadh is among the top ten city destinations for DXB in terms of traffic with more than 1.85 million passengers flying between the two cities in 2017.

Smart pedestrian signals in 15 new locations
The Dubai Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has widened the scope of the Smart Pedestrian Signals Project in Dubai to cover 15 new locations after a successful trail debut on Al Saadah Street. The project is part of RTA’s efforts to realize the objectives of the Smart City initiative. Multiple accidents hit Dubai-Sharjah traffic
Multiple road accidents occurred on Dubai’s major highways creating heavy traffic jams. Motorists are advised to drive safely and take alternative routes wherever possible. At least two accidents were reported on the Sharjah highway; one accident on E11 near Al Majlis Street and the other before the Dubai Trade centre intersection. Delays are also reported on E44 Al Awir road from Al Warqa to Ras Al Khor, Al Khail Road and on Sheikh Zayed Road near Al Barsha. Drivers can also expect delays along the E66 and E311 intersection near Dubai Silicon Oasis and Academic City.

Avalanche at California ski resort leaves two injured
Two people were injured at Squaw Valley Ski Resort in California ski after an avalanche caught five people. One of them is seriously injured, report sates. Dozens of rescuers rushed to the scene Friday afternoon at east of Sacramento. One man was hospitalized with a serious lower body injury, another person was treated and released and three people weren’t hurt. The resort has been closed. The avalanche occurred a day after a snowboarder died at the resort after a blizzard packing 150-mph winds hit the Sierra Nevada.
E-system to replace visa stickers in UAE
UAE residency visa stickers, which are placed on passport pages, would be replaced by a new electronic system, the Ministry of Interior said. The General Directorate of Residency and Foreign Affairs had reportedly discussed the possibility during a meeting held in Ajman last week. The proposal comes in line with Vision 2021 and is indicative of a general migration to smart digital services that reduce paperwork, time and effort.
