India to add 10 million travel & tourism jobs in a decade
According to World Travel & Tourism Council (WTTC), travel & tourism in 2017 in India supported 41 million jobs and is expected to rise to 43 million in 2018, and a further 53 million in 2028. India will add around 10 million jobs in the travel and tourism sector by 2028 said the WTTC report. India is currently the seventh largest travel and tourism economy in the world. Overall, the total contribution of the sector to the economy was Rs 15.2 trillion ($ 234 billion) in 2017 after taking direct, indirect and induced benefits are taken in to account. WTTC’s annual ... WTTC’s annual Economic Impact Research shows that Travel & Tourism was responsible for the creation of 7 million new jobs worldwide. Three Kerala railway stations to be made world-class
The Centre has decided to develop three railway stations in Kerala as world-class railway stations, informed Union Minister of State for Tourism and Information Technology, Alphons KJ has said. The minister has announced the decision through his Facebook page today. Kottayam, Palakkad and Kozhikode railway stations will be raised to world-class standard, said the minister. The government has allocated Rs 20 crore for this purpose. The decision was taken following the discussions held with Union Minister for Railways, Piyush Goyal.
Brahmos supersonic missile tested at Pokhran
BrahMos, the supersonic cruise missile of India, has been successfully tested from Rajasthan’s Pokhran test range earlier today. “The precision strike weapon with Indian-made seeker flew in its designated trajectory, and hit the target with pinpoint accuracy,” tweeted Nirmala Sitharaman, Union Defence Minister. The incredible supersonic missile travels three times the speed of sound, with a range of over 290 kilometres. The range can further be extended to over 400 km with additional booster engines. “The successful test will further bolster our national security,” added the Defence Minister. Maldives lifts emergency after 45 days
Maldivian President Abdulla Yameen, at last, withdraws the state emergency that has been on-going for the past 45 days. The situation went worse from 5th February after the Supreme Court of Maldives made a statement against the ruling government. According to the President’s office. “Though there still exists a diminished threat to national security, because the nation can now continue without further losses incurred, and upon the advice of the Security Services and, in an effort to promote normalcy, the president has decided to lift the state of emergency”. Public service workers, air traffic controllers and rail staff in France are on a major strike. Quarry Hotel in China
China’s Shanghai is about to open an architectural marvel named as Sheshan Shimao quarry hotel, constructed inside an abandoned quarry. Around 80 metres of the structure is buried deep inside the water, which includes rooms and floors under water. The hotel described as ‘fight against gravity’ is a collaboration between Chinese engineers and British designing team Athins. The hotel consists of over 336 rooms, green roof, waterfall, along with an underwater restaurant. Etihad signs codeshare agreement with Swiss
Etihad Airways has signed a new codeshare partnership with Swiss International Air Lines (Swiss). Under the agreement, Etihad Airways will have its EY flight code on Swiss services between Geneva and Zurich, while Swiss will market its LX code on the Abu Dhabi carrier’s said services between Zurich and Abu Dhabi. Kadalundi Tourism minister Kadakampally Surendran will inaugurate ‘Jalayanam’ on March 24 at the Mampuzha Farm Tourism Centre in Olavanna, Calicut. ‘Jalayanam’ is aimed at developing farm and aquatic tourism initiatives and is expected to boost tourism in Kadalundi and Olavanna areas. Mampuzha, Chaliyar, Kaladundi rivers and its nearby areas are included in the project. Ernakulam to be air-horn-free
Around 100 air horns fitted in inter-state heavy vehicles were removed in a joint vehicle check that was carried out by officials from the State Transport Authority and the District Police Office in the city. The department wants to ensure that the city becomes air-horn-free and has strengthened the vehicle check. “Over 100 air-horn pipes have been seized in less than 2 hours, with the majority of them being found in inter-state heavy vehicles,” said George Joseph, Motor Vehicle Inspector. New York marks record number of tourist arrivals
The city tourism bureau of New York City & Company (NYC & Co) has published a new record of over 62.8 million tourist arrival in the state during 2017. The new arrival is 3.8 per cent more than that of 2016. The data states that over 79.1 per cent tourist were domestic tourists and the remaining are from foreign countries.
