Cyclone Gaja alert sounded in Tamil Nadu, Andhra and Puducherry
Travellers in any of the areas of Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh and Puducherry, please stay safe as the authorities have issued a cyclone alert in the regions. The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a cyclone red alert for Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Andhra Pradesh. Cyclone Titli had earlier made landfall on October 11 and left 62 people dead in Odisha. The IMD said the cyclone Gaja was approaching coastal Tamil Nadu (east-northeast of Chennai) and east-southeast of Sriharikota in Andhra Pradesh. Incessant power supply progrmme for major tourist places in Assam
Assam government envisages 24×7 power supply to seven tourist spots in the State and sanctioned a sum of Rs 30 crore for the project. However, due to non-release of funds the scheme is yet to be started. Sualkuchi Weaver Village Entrance Under the project the State Power Department was to ensure incessant power supply to tourist hotspots, such as Kaziranga, Kamakhya, Sualkuchi, Tezpur, Manash, Pobitora and Majuli. Andhra Pradesh Tourism Authority (APTA) to host Formula 1 Motorboat Racing in river Krishna near the green field capital city of Amaravati. The global sporting event, F1H20 World Championship, is coming back to India after a long gap of 14 years. The prestigious racing extravaganza will take place from November 16 to 18. Kuveshi canopy walkway in Karnataka to be open for public this November
India’s first canopy walk is all set to open for tourists by mid-November. Though it was inaugurated in February, entry of tourists was barred because of monsoon. The 240 meter canopy walkway 30 meters above ground level in the dense forests of Western Ghats was constructed by the The Forest and Tourism departments jointly at a cost of Rs 84 lakh. Singapore Tourism records drop in tourist spending in Q2
Despite some 4.6 million visitor arrivals, Singapore tourism sector recorded a drop in overall spending in the second quarter of the year by 1.7 per cent to USD 6.6 billion, compared with the same period last year. It was revealed by the quarterly report by Singapore Tourism Board (STB) The dip in tourism spending was attributed to lower spending in areas like shopping, 22 per cent less and food and beverage, 15 per cent less, and in sightseeing, entertainment and gaming, 2 per cent less. No more smoking in public in Thailand
Travellers, be aware that new regulations are issued by the Department of Public Health in Thailand which will force smokers to stay well away from public buildings and public areas. The ban will include people smoking outside café and restaurants. No smoking signs must be posted in accordance with ministry regulations and that the areas surrounding such signs in all directions will be considered off limits to smoking, reads the guidelines.
