Blue blooms in Vettaikaran Kovil, near Kanthalloor, Munnar

Master plan for Kochi airport to meet emergency situations

Kochi airport, the seventh busiest in the country, had been non-functional from August 14 to 28 owing to the devastating flood that shook the entire state between August 8 and 22. The airport authorities had first announced the shuttering of the facility till August 18, which was then extended to August 26 and further to August 29 as water levels continued to rise inundating the runway, the terminals as well as the large solar farm surrounding the airport. The priority of the government after the floods is to restore and rebuild roads and bridges to the major tourist destinations in Kerala, said Kadakampally Surendran, Minister for Tourism.  The minister was addressing a gathering at ‘Kaithanginoru Kooppukai’ after felicitating tourism/hospitality professionals who were involved in rescue and relief activities during the flood. Neelakurinji blooms in Rajamala, Munnar

After the rain and floods, Neelakurinji in Rajamala started blooming. This time, flowers are bloomed in a scattered manner, than the usual extensive blooming along the valley to make it a blue-purple carpet. As per experts, if the sun would shine unceasingly in the days to come, there could be extensive blooming. The season may prolong until October. Kerala Floods: Rescue workers from tourism sector to be honoured

The Government of Kerala is all set to honour the rescue workers from the tourism field including life guards, who actively participated in the rescue operations during the recent flood that hit the state. Tourism Minister Kadakampally Surendran will attend the function which is to be held at Kanakakkunnu Palace in Thiruvananthapuram at 4 pm on September 3. Boating resumes at Thekkady after rains

Kerala’s popular tourist destination, Thekkady, famous for the Tiger Reserve and wild life sanctuary, which has been closed following the rains, is returning to its normal days. After the incessant rains and flood, Kuttanad in Alappuzha, renowned for its house boats, is bouncing back to normal. House boats resumed operation in Alappuzha on 31st August 2018. This year was expected to be a better tourism season for the houseboats, with the announcement of the first-ever Boat League, Nehru Trophy Boat Race and Monsoon Tourism in the tourism chart. Ban on tourism and heavy vehicle operations in Idukki has been lifted

Ban on tourism and operations of heavy vehicles in Idukki, imposed by an advisory on 9th September 2018 has been lifted with effect from 31st August 2018. The new advisory issued by Jeevan Babu,  District Collector of Idukki, on behalf of the District Disaster Management Authority, states that the advisory banning tourism and operations of heavy vehicles in the Idukki District has been revoked by this order. Kerala honours fishermen who saved many lives during floods

Kerala lauded the heroes of the state, whose selfless actions have saved thousands of lives during the devastating flood.  The state government has arranged a programme to felicitate the fishermen community, who were part of the rescue operations during the flood.
