CKTI writes to Kerala MPs, urging them to intervene

The Confederation of Kerala Tourism Industry (CKTI) has written to all the 12 Members of Parliament (MPs) from Kerala, requesting them to take up the woes of the tourism sector in Parliament or related committees. CKTI President EM Najeeb in his letter to the MPs said the tourism industry which has already been facing various challenges, has been hit especially hard by the Covid-19 epidemic. KTM sets up help-desk to assist tourists

Kumarakom, Hampi chosen as iconic tourist sites

The Ministry of Tourism has identified 17 sites in 12 clusters in the country for developing them as iconic tourist sites, the Minister of State for Culture and Tourism, Prahlad Singh Patel has stated in a written reply in the Lok Sabha on Monday. Kerala Tourism prepares blueprint of Do’s and Don’ts

Kerala chief minister Pinarayi Vijayan has unequivocally stated that no tourist coming into Kerala should feel harassed, due to the stringent virus testing measures initiated by the government, in the wake of the corona outbreak. “No one should be forced to leave,” he said while addressing a review meeting on the situation on Saturday. The chief minister has said that all stakeholders should ensure that the inbound tourists don’t face any difficulty. Wonderla park shuts temporarily Wonderla Holidays has decided to temporarily shut down its amusement park in Kochi in the wake of the increasing number of coronavirus cases “This is to inform the stock exchanges that in view of the emerging situation in Kerala, consequent to the reported coronavirus cases, the company has decided to temporarily close the Kochi park from March 11-20, Wonderla said in a statement.

Idukki hotels need to screen guests for virus, says district collector

The Idukki district collector has said that resorts and hotels in Idukki should allow rooms to guests, only after ensuring that they have tested negative for corona virus. Earlier the district administration had issued a circular restricting the bookings in the district. But in the light of Idukki not having any confirmed cases of the dreaded virus, the circular has been modified. The hotels and resorts now have to only ensure that they screen the guests coming from corona impacted travel spots, and ensure they have not come in contact with the virus. Periyar Tiger Reserve to close till month end

Entry to the Periyar Tiger Reserve has been closed from March 11 to March 31, the state government said on Tuesday. This is in connection with the spread of the Corona virus. All activities inside the park, boating, all community based ecotourism programmes, Gavi ecotourism, nature camps etc will not be permitted.

Kerala Tourism scales new heights, with revenues topping Rs 45,000 crores

State registers the highest growth rate since 1996 Kerala has shown yet again why it’s God’s Own Country when it comes to tourism. Despite being stung hard by the nipah virus and the incessant floods last year, the state has recorded the highest growth rate in domestic and total tourist arrivals in 24 years. Kerala attracted around 1.96 crore domestic and foreign visitors in 2019, registering a healthy growth of 17.2 per cent as compared to the figures in the previous year. Kerala govt issues fresh guidelines for school trips

Schools to engage only authorised tour operators The Kerala government has provided fresh directions for schools while undertaking study tours and industry visits, keeping in mind some of the undesirable practices that have crept into the system. The state education department has said that all schools including the CBSE and ICSE institutions have to ensure that only recognised tour operators are used for the purpose.
