29 tourism activities to get industry status in Uttarakhand

With the aim of increasing tourism activities in the state, Uttarakhand tourism department has given industry status to 29 new activities. Issuing the notification, the Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises has issued orders to provide financial incentives and other facilities under the policy. Satpal Maharaj, Tourism & Culture Minister of Uttarakhand, said that now the businessmen of the tourism sector will be able to avail status of industry for the tourism activities. Kannur airport to start UDAN services from Friday

Kannur Airport Services under the union ministry’s UDAN (Ude Desh ka Aam Naagrik) scheme have been launched in Kannur Airport, to provide air travel for Indian cities at low rates. IndiGo launched its first service under the scheme from Friday, 26th January 2019. Drinking liquor on Goan beaches will attract fine and imprisonment

Goa, the state known for its beach tourism, is planning to ban drinking liquor in public places and beaches.  Goa Cabinet has approved the amendment to the provision of strict disciplinary measures to ban food and cooking food besides drinking alcohol. As per the new law, the offenders will be imposed a fine of Rs 2,000 or three months imprisonment. Indian tourists spent $1.6 billion in Australia from Oct 2017-Sept 2018

International tourist arrivals up 6% to 1.4 bn in 2018: UNWTO

According to an estimate published by the World Tourism Organization, the number of international tourist arrivals rose by 6 per cent last year to 1.4 billion. The increase was driven by travel to southern Europe, the Middle East and Africa, said the report, citing economic growth and cheaper air travel as key factors. Although arrivals to the Americas grew by a modest three per cent – four for North America – Europe, Africa and Asia-Pacific performed better, with rises of six, seven and six per cent respectively. Japan breaks all-time record in 2018
