MakeMyTrip partners with ASI to boost bookings for Heritage Monuments
With an aim to promote India as a heritage tourism destination, MakeMyTrip has signed a Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) with Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) for convenient and hassle-free online booking for 116 historical monuments and sites across India. The agreement entails listing and offering an online booking gateway to world heritage and well-known monuments under the protection of ASI including Taj Mahal, Red fort, Qutub Minar, Humayun’s Tomb, Khajuraho Temple, Charminar, Golconda Fort among others. Air India to launch Delhi-Toronto direct flight in September
Air India will launch the Delhi-Toronto direct flight on the occasion of World Tourism Day on September 27. The airline is also planning to launch a direct flight to Nairobi, Kenya sometime in October. “We will launch Delhi-Toronto non-stop flight from September 27 on the occasion of the World Tourism Day,” said Ashwini Lohani, Chairman & MD, Air India. The new flights will commence shortly from Kolkata, Hyderabad, Kunnoor and Kochi during winter session which starts from October 10. (Source: TOI)
Umrah pilgrims now free to move around Saudi Arabia
The pilgrims visiting Saudi Arabia for Umrah will now be free to visit anywhere in the Kingdom during their stay, the Saudi Cabinet decided on Tuesday. “The Cabinet has decided to exclude people coming to perform Umrah and to visit the Prophet’s Mosque (in Madinah), of the prohibition of movement outside Makkah, Madinah, and Jeddah. A royal decree has been prepared to this effect,” the acting media minister, Issam bin Saeed, said in a statement to the Saudi Press Agency (SPA). Raki Phillips joins Ras Al Khaimah Tourism Development Authority as CEO
Hospitality veteran Raki Phillips has been appointed as CEO of Ras Al Khaimah Tourism Development Authority (RAKTDA). Phillips, who took over since June 2019, brings to the table wide-ranging industry experience, which will aid Ras Al Khaimah’s goal of becoming one of the fastest growing destinations in the world. According to RAKTDA, Phillips’ appointment heralds the beginning of a new phase of tourism development for the Emirate. Shangri-La to open 5 new hotels in India by 2024
Hong Kong-headquartered, Shangri-La Hotels and Resorts is targeting to open five more hotels in India by 2024. Shangi-La has two hotels in the country, in Delhi and Bengaluru and is scouting for various locations including Mumbai, Goa, Kolkata and Hyderabad, said its Executive Vice President for the Middle East, India & Indian Ocean, John Northern. “The important thing for us is to find the right partner. Get Tatkal passport in a day, normal passport in just 11 days
The time-frame for issuing a normal passport has been reduced to 11 days, while passports under the ‘tatkal’ category are issued within a day’s time, informed V Muraleedharan, Minister of State, Ministry of External Affairs. The minister stated that in India, people are getting a passport within 11 days under normal circumstances. The statement also said that a tatkal passport is issued within a day’s time. Nepal Tourism Board has formally launched its ‘Visit Nepal 2020’ campaign in Mumbai during the third leg of its four-city roadshow in India and interacted with key outbound agents here. Nepal to get two new international airports
By 2020, the government plans to operate two new international airports in Pokhara and Lumbini which will help boost tourism from India to Nepal and vice-versa. Nepal Tourism Board (NTB) has recently conducted its destination presentation in New Delhi on 8 July at The Park hotel. The event showcased the country’s many tourism offerings, as the Board targets a 25 per cent growth in arrivals from India. Dubai Tourism, TikTok partner for marketing campaign
Following Kerala Tourism, who has entered into a partnership with TikTok recently, the Ministry of Tourism, Dubai has also announced its partnership with mobile video application TikTok for their #ThisisDubai social media campaign.
