Measles outbreak at Okinawa

Okinawa, an island destination located in Japan, is facing an outbreak of measles, ahead of the summer holidays. As per the government data, over 65 infections were registered within a span of one month. Meanwhile, hoteliers have received over 170 cancellations from inbound and outbound travellers. The epidemic began to spread after a Taiwanese man was consulted with the airborne disease on 20th March. However, the Okinawa authorities are providing vaccination programmes to the visitors. Mild earthquake shook Gujarat

An earthquake measuring over 3.7 on the Richter scale shook Gujarat, with Sardar Sarovar Dam located in the Narmada dam being the epicentre. According to media reports, the exact location of the quake was developed 38 km east of the Narmada dam, by around 4.56 pm on Saturday. Institute of Seismological Research (ISR) following the incident has reviled that the current epicentre has a calibre to produce over 6.5 magnitude quake. National Anthem not compulsory at cinema halls: Committee to advise Govt

The 12-member inter-ministerial committee, set up to “frame guidelines describing circumstances and occasions on which the national anthem is to be played or sung”, is likely to suggest that cinema halls should not play the national anthem before screening a film. The committee, headed by Special Secretary, Ministry of Home Affairs, Brij Raj Sharma, is likely to suggest that the playing of 52-second long anthem before screening will interrupt the screening of the film, and create disorder and confusion instead of adding dignity to it. Air Deccan launches Mumbai-Kolhapur flights

Air Deccan has launched Mumbai – Kolhapur flights, which is scheduled to formally begin services from April 22 under the regional connectivity scheme Ude Desh Ka Aam Nagrik (UDAN). Air Deccan officials said that they have already started operations and have opened flight bookings offering a promotional fare of Rs 1299 for the 90-minute flight.
