Global gastronomy tourism forum kicked off

The 4th United Nations World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) Forum on Gastronomy Tourism was launched off on Thursday at Bangkok. The forum has brought 475 delegates from 52 nations to Bangkok. The forum focuses on updating the participants about the strong linkage between tourism and gastronomy highlighting new techniques and technologies in preparing, marketing and managing the association. The forum organized by UNWTO and Basque Culinary Centre focuses on stressing the importance and role of gastronomy tourism towards the development of sustainable tourism in the region and increasing its awareness, both nationally and regionally. China enticing more and more Kenyan tourists

The introduction of direct flights between Nairobi and Guangzhou have resulted in boost in number of tourists, as the reports indicate that around more than 1,20,000 Kenyan passengers have arrived in the Chinese city since 2015. The Kenyan passengers mostly fly these days to the city for buying goods. The number of tourists is expected to rise as Guangzhou is making plans to entice more Kenyan tourists to the city. Thailand Travel Mart 2018 to be conducted in Pattaya yacht club

The annual Thailand Travel Mart Plus Amazing Gateway to the Greater Mekong Subregion (TTM+) to Pattaya in 2018, will have a small change from the usual venue. Hong Kong gets ready for the Dragon Boat Carnival

The 9th annual Hong Kong International Dragon Boat Carnival will be held from 22 to 24 June. Organised by the Hong Kong Tourism Board (HKTB) in partnership with the Hong Kong China Dragon Boat Association (HKCDBA), the dragon boat races will be held on Victoria Harbour. The event is expected to attract more than 4,500 paddlers from 165 local and international teams. The festival has its origins in a tragedy that occurred 2,000 years ago. Red alert cyclone warning issued in Myanmar

The Myanmar Department of Meteorology and Hydrology has raised a red alert for flash floods, landslides and storm surges as a tropical depression makes landfall. The Met department has warned that a deep depression is occurring over middle-east part of the Bay of Bengal and the cyclone storm will land in coastal areas of Rakhine state within the next 12 hours. Strong winds of up to 80 kilometres per hour could hit some coastal areas, and storm surges as high as 16 feet could pummel the shores, it said. Thailand to host Asia music festival in Koh Samui Island

With an aim to attract more tourists, the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) is all set to host a two-day Asia music festival on August 18 in southern Thai island of Koh Samui. Egypt tourism revenues achieve huge growth in first quarter

Egypt’s tourist sector achieved humongous growth as the revenue for first quarter touched $2.2 billion, recording a rise of 83.3 per cent. The report also reveals that the Arab nation had a tourist footfall of almost 2.383 million tourists, recording an increase in visitors by 37.1 per cent. The report also suggests that tourist nights reached $23.8 million in the same period. As per the report of Central Agency for Public Mobilization and Statistics (CAPMAS), the country has received around 7,30,000 tourists in February 2018, registering a 35 per cent increase compared to the same period last year. Tibet registers rise in tourist footfall in January-April

According to reports of regional authorities, Southwest China’s Tibet Autonomous Region had a tourist footfall of around 40,000 from January to April. This registers a growth by 50.5 per cent in tourist arrivals, when compared to same period last year. The regional tourism development committee confirmed that the region earned $ 26.7 million as tourism revenue during the period, recording an increase of 50.7 per cent. The annual water carnival in Nepal was attended by almost 500 locals and foreigners. The 30th Annual Rafting Festival 2018 was organized by the Nepal Association of Rafting Agencies (NARA), an umbrella organization of rafting agencies, under the theme “Let’s Protect our Rivers for Tourism and Environment.” White water rafting was organized in Benighat-Phisling section of Trishuli River, some 40 km away from the capital city. Etihad Cargo, the cargo division of Etihad Airways, has launched its first humanitarian freighter missions as part of the group’s extensive Year of Zayed programme, which will take place throughout 2018.
