Qutub Minar named Best Monument for Differently-abled
Qutub Minar has bagged the top award in the differently-abled friendly monument category at the National Tourism Awards. The awards were presented by Union Tourism Minister K J Alphons at a ceremony held at the Vigyan Bhavan. Qutbu’d-Din Aibak laid the foundation of the Minar in AD 1199, to which subsequent additions were made by his successor Iltutmish and Firoz Shah Tughlak. The 73-metre tower has five distinct storeys, each marked by a projecting balcony. Ministry for Tourism to offer tourists free Wi-Fi access at castles in Oman
The Ministry of Tourism in Oman has decided to offer free Wi-Fi services on the go at five castles. Through a strategic partnership with “Omantel”, free Wi-Fi services will be installed in five castles. This application is designed with the characteristics and features that will attract tourists. Kerala tourism is planning to introduce ‘Heli Ride’ for the tourists coming on international cruise liners at the port of call. The discussions are on initial stage; however the authorities are likely launch it as a pilot programme at the forthcoming Kerala Travel Mart (KTM 2018) by offering the facility to the delegates. Whatsapp has appointed a grievance officer for India and detailed out the process for users to flag concerns and complaints, including those around fake news. Meeting one of the key demands that India had put on Whatsapp to curb fake messages that triggered mob killings, the Facebook-owned company has updated its website to reflect the appointment of a ‘Grievance Officer for India’. Saudi camel festival enters Guinness World Records
Crown Prince Camel Festival has entered the Guinness World Records as the largest camel sports festival in the world. This year’s festival saw the participation of a record 11,186 camels, which competed in 787 rounds of competition over more than 40 days from August 11 to September 22. The world record came at a time when Saudi was celebrating its 88th National Day celebrated on September 23 every year. Çelebi Airport Services wins ground handling license for Kannur airport
Çelebi Airport Services, a global service provider in ground handling services, has bagged the ground handling services at Kerala’s newest airport, Kannur International Airport Limited (KIAL). Kannur airport will be Çelebi’s sixth airport in India after Kempegowda International Airport in Bengaluru, where the company won the ground handling license in June 2018.
