Iran to open its borders for travel & tourism, starting July
Iran’s tourism ministry has said that the country will start hosting foreign travellers by mid-summer, with priority given to guests from neighbouring countries. “Based on our data analysis, Iran will open land borders to neighbours as of July 5 and some of its air borders as of July 22,” Mohammad-Ebrahim Larijani, the director of the ministry’s advertising and marketing office said, according to a report in Tehran Times. Flydubai, the Dubai-based low-cost carrier, has said it will start special repatriation flights to multiple cities in 11 countries with immediate effect. UK to impose 14-day quarantine for incoming travellers from today
The UK will impose a 14-day quarantine period for incoming travellers from today, despite strong opposition from several industry quarters. Three airlines — British Airways, Ryanair and easyJet — have complained to the British government in protest at the measures they say are “disproportionate and unfair on British citizens as well as international visitors arriving in the UK”. The skydiving centre in Dubai Marina has resumed operations at the Palm Jumeirah drop zone, with strict regulations in place to keep skydivers safe during the Covid-19 pandemic. Upon arrival at Skydive Dubai, every visitor and staff member will be temperature screened, and anyone with a high temperature will be turned away, even if they have a paid reservation. Etihad has landed a plane in Cuba for the very first time. The airline flew from Abu Dhabi to Havana, helping Cuban nationals return home. ITC Hotels has launched Lavanderia, a contact-light laundry service, now available to customers in various metros across India. The initiative offers strict monitoring of safety and hygiene norms at each step. The service allows customers to hand over the items at a designated point at the hotel. Thailand govt to help debt-ridden Thai Airways remain afloat
A government panel is stepping up to help debt-ridden Thai Airways pass regulatory and contractual hurdles ahead of the national carrier’s planned debt rehabilitation. According to Prapas Kong, director-general of the State Enterprise Policy Office (SEPO), a state-appointed committee following up on the airline’s rehabilitation, headed by Deputy Prime Minister Wissanu Krea-ngam, will arrange the help. The troubled airline turned to the government because it has many contracts with trading partners and legal obligations that can only be resolved with the state’s help. Hotel bookings in China have returned to about 50% of pre-Covid levels, while airlines resumed operations at more than half of their capacity. China has decided to extend the exemption of value-added taxes for the tourism industry until the end of the year, thereby aiding the speedy recovery of the sector, as part of its efforts to shore up consumption. Etihad to link 20 cities, after UAE permits transit flights
Etihad Airways has announced plans to link 20 cities in Europe, Asia and Australia via Abu Dhabi, following the decision of the National Emergency Crisis and Disasters Management Authority (NCEMA) to reopen UAE airports for transit flights. Etihad recently launched links from Melbourne and Sydney to London Heathrow, allowing direct transfer connections to and from the UK capital via Abu Dhabi. US to prevent Chinese airlines from flying into the country, citing travel agreement violations
The US government has said it will block Chinese airlines from flying into the US in response to what it says is a policy that has prevented US carriers from service between the two countries. The Transportation Department restrictions will take effect June 16 but could be enacted earlier if President Donald Trump decides to do so.
