Chhattisgarh sets up dedicated fund for Ram Van Gaman tourism circuit
Chhattisgarh chief minister Bhupesh Baghel has announced that a dedicated fund will be constituted for people to contribute towards the development of his government’s ambitious Ram Van Gaman tourism circuit project. “Chhattisgarh is ‘nanihal‘ (maternal place) of Lord Ram. Ladakh, Leh, Kargil to become carbon neutral zone: Prime Minister Modi
The Ladakh, Leh and Kargil regions will be developed and declared as a carbon neutral region, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said in his Independence Day speech on Saturday. Taiwanese island group sees uptick in tourism
Penghu, the archipelago to the west of Taiwan’s main island, received more visitors in July than during the six previous months combined. As the impact of the Wuhan coronavirus (COVID-19) in Taiwan lessens while overseas travel remains difficult, more Taiwanese are traveling around the country, often heading for small islands such as Green Island and Orchid Island in the south-eastern county of Taitung. Dubai to gain from travel opening with Israel
Dubai is likely to benefit the most in aviation from the United Arab Emirates’ historic deal to normalize relations with Israel, Bloomberg has reported, gaining a new stream of travellers that can help the Gulf travel hub bounce back from the coronavirus crisis that has decimated air traffic. The agreement between the two countries sets aside decades of enmity, opening ties through air travel, tourism, investment, security and telecommunications. India inks air bubble agreement with Maldives
India has signed an air bubble agreement with the Maldives, making it the sixth country in a growing list of places where Indians can travel to. The first flight to Male will leave from here on August 18. An air bubble between countries allows citizens to travel freely between specified nations without having the need to undergo on-arrival quarantine. India currently hasallowed travel to the US, the UK, Germany, France and Kuwait, and is in talks with Canada for a similar travel arrangement. Emirates adds Birmingham to its service network
Emirates airline will resume passenger services to three more destinations in the coming weeks, taking its network to 74 cities. The Dubai carrier will resume operations to Birmingham (September 1) four times a week, Cebu (August 20) two times a week, and Houston (23 August) three times a week. The addition of Houston will see Emirates resume flights to six US destinations in total, in addition to New York JFK, Washington DC, Boston (15 August), Chicago and Los Angeles, with a total of 27 weekly flights to the country. Thailand feels Christmas season is in jeopardy
The Tourism Authority of Thailand’s (TAT) deputy governor for international marketing, Chattan Kunjara Na Ayudhya, has said there was “no talk of a timeline issued for reopening the country to inbound or outbound leisure travel”. He said he doesn’t expect Thailand to welcome tourists until at least 2021. Travel agents in Australia struggle to keep up with holiday cancellation complaints
It’s believed billions of dollars are currently tied up in unused holiday credits and yet-to-be issued refunds, and customers are not happy. The issue has become so heated the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) has been forced to develop a series of guidelines for travel agents dealing with coronavirus-related cancellations after record numbers of complaints from holidaymakers. Maldives’ eco-tourism gets an Indian boost
Maldives’ five eco-tourism zones, to be built with grant assistance from India, have been launched. The contract award ceremony was held on Monday as part of Delhi’s neighbourhood first policy. As the implementing agency for these projects, Addu City Council (Maldives), is responsible for steering the entire project cycle including tendering, tender-evaluation, award of contracts, monitoring and execution of the projects. Addu is a city in Maldives that consists of the inhabited islands of the southernmost atoll of the archipelago. It is the second largest urban area in Maldives. Dominica reopens for tourism
The Eastern Caribbean island of Dominica is now open for tourism. The “Nature Island” officially reopened its borders to international travellers (including those from the United States) on August 7, Caribbean Journal has reported. All travellers to Dominica must show proof of a negative COVID-19 test result taken within 72 hours prior to the day of their arrival. They must complete Dominica’s COVID-19 travel screening questionnaire, at least 24 hours prior to travel. Karnataka drops mandatory institutional quarantine for international travellers
The Karnataka government has tweaked its quarantine requirements and has dropped the seven-day institutional quarantine for international travellers. So far, international returnees had to undergo seven days of institutional quarantine, with the exception of those above 60 years of age, children under the age of 10, pregnant women and people with terminal illnesses who were allowed to self-isolate at home. But this rule has now been changed. Asymptomatic international returnees to Karnataka will undergo a 14-day home quarantine instead. Indian-Americans have welcomed India’s decision to restore the Overseas Citizens of India (OCI) card benefits, including the visa-free travel to the country, which were suspended in view of the coronavirus pandemic, reports PTI. British Airways announces flights from Indian cities, Bengaluru and Delhi included
British Airways has announced that it will be operating five flights every week from Delhi and Mumbai, and four each week from Hyderabad and Bengaluru to London’s Heathrow airport from August 17.
