Tourism Kelowna embraces new sustainability initiative

Tourism Kelowna will be the first organization in the Thompson-Okanagan region to initiate a new industry sustainability project. The project made by the Thompson Okanagan Tourism Association (TOTA), the Biosphere Certification Adhesion Program will be launched in Kelowna first, followed by Kamloops and other places across the region. Based on TOTA’s ‘Drive for Sustainability’ plan, the project will bring together community stakeholders to work together and execute long-term stewardship of local tourism while offering visitors an ‘authentic, remarkable experience’. MATTA demands to abolish Tourism Tax

As a step to improve the tourism sector of Malaysia, the Malaysian Association of Tour and Travel Agents (MATTA) has strengthened calls for abolishing Tourism Tax (TTx). The tax was implemented on September last year for foreigners at a flat rate of 10 Malaysian Ringgit (RM10) per room for a night at hotels and other private lodgings. Morocco’s tourism revenues up 18.1 per cent

As per the recent statistics, Morocco’s tourism revenues has jumped 18.1 per cent year on year to $2.1 billion in the first four months of 2018. The statistics were published by the country’s foreign exchange regulator. Between January and April, remittances from around 4.5 million Moroccans living abroad posted a 13 per cent increase to $ 2.11 billion  compared with $ 1.85 billion during the same period previous year. Tourism revenues and remittances from Moroccans living abroad are the main sources of foreign currency reserves for Morocco. Experts believe that the declaration of 10-year residency visas for investors and specialists will encourage more medical professionals to UAE. Brazil to promote itself as a gay-friendly destination

Brazil’s Tourism Ministry has announced that they have signed an agreement with the Brazilian LGBT Trade and Commerce Chamber to promote the country as a gay-friendly tourism destination. Through the agreement, the government hopes to increase awareness of Brazil as a gay-friendly destination and also improve treatment of lesbians, gays, bisexuals and transgenders (LGBT). “Brazil is still a very conservative nation, but tourism helps bridge gaps and improve communication,” said Tourism Minister Vinicius Lummertz. UAE’s travel and hospital industry untroubled by VAT implementation  

The implementation of value-added tax (VAT) doesn’t seem to trouble UAE’s hospitality and travel sector, as reports suggest the sturdy tourism sector is growing. Within few month of the tax implementation, the number of tourists rose to 4.7 million recording a growth of 2 per cent, while the accommodation rate reached up to 87 per cent indicating a growth by 0.7 per cent. Jet Airways launches non stop service between Mumbai and Manchester

Jet Airways has launched its first non-stop service between Mumbai and Manchester, which will operate for four days a week including Monday, Thursday, Saturday and Sunday. Jet Airways’ flight 9W 130 will depart from Mumbai at 02.30 am (local time) and will arrive in Manchester’s Terminal 2 at 07.55 am (local time). Chinese multinational company Fosun International Ltd is planning to expand the business in North America’s tourism and leisure market through acquisitions. Zimbabwe records 2.4 million tourist arrivals in 2017

Zimbabwe attracted more than 2.4 million tourist arrivals in 2017, a 12 per cent increase from the previous year. The increase in arrivals can be attributed to the country’s safe ans peaceful environment,” said Vice President General Constantino Chiwenga while addressing the gathering during the launch of the National Tourism Master Plan. In 2017, Zimbabwe received a total of 2422930 tourists, registering an increase of 12 per cent compared to the 2167686 footfalls in 2016.
