Emirates may cut flight frequency on US, Europe, Asia routes
Emirates said to reduce the frequency of services on a number of routes to Europe, Asia and US in the coming months. As reported by Routesonline.com, a schedule update showed the carrier was reducing its Dubai to Fort Lauderdale and Dubai to Orlando services from once a day to five times a week, after July 2 and 3 respectively. The change represents a return to the previous schedule after the carrier said in January it would be restoring daily services to both locations from March 25 following a “steady rebound in customer demand”. Runway at Mumbai airport to remain closed
Flying in and out of Mumbai for the next two days as the main runway will remain closed due to the pre-monsoon maintenance work on the main runway. The routine exercise to remove rubber deposits on the runway will be carried out on April 9 and 10 for six hours each day between 11 AM and 5 PM. Though, the secondary runway will be functional during the maintenance work, several flights are expected to be rescheduled and cancelled. Alliance Air has started thrice-a-week flight service on the Delhi-Pathankot Delhi route. Civil Aviation Minister Suresh Prabhu inaugurated first flight from Delhi to Pathankot (Punjab), at a ceremony held at the Indira Gandhi International Airport in Delhi. AirAsia to launch flights between Phuket and Penang
AirAsia has unveiled plans to launch direct flights between Phuket and Penang on 1 July 2018. Operated exclusively by AirAsia Berhad, the direct flight marks the airline’s 10th route from the Pearl of the Orient, further strengthening AirAsia’s inter-ASEAN connectivity. Bengaluru Airport to get its own robot soon
India’s Silicon Valley will soon be the first in India to offer robotic assistance to passengers. Named Kempa, the humanoid robot was created by local start-up Sirena Technologies. The project is in its final phase, and is likely to be installed at Bengaluru’s Kempegowda International Airport as soon as Minister of State of Innovation and Technology Priyank Kharge gives his approval. Jet Airways to buy 75 Boeing 737 Max jets worth up to $9.7 billion
Jet Airways India Ltd. has agreed to buy 75 Boeing Co. 737 Max aircraft, confirming an earlier planned order to help meet demand. The order is valued at $7.2 billion to $9.7 billion. Jet Airways didn’t specify the 737 Max variant for this order and has already made an order for the Max 8, the most popular of the planemaker’s revamped 737 models. Jet Airways becomes the latest carrier in India to order more planes to meet burgeoning demand, fuelled by an expanding middle class that’s finding air travel affordable.

Saudi Arabia won’t retain passports of Indian crew on arrival
The government of Saudi Arabia has decided not to retain the passports of the Indian airline crew members on arrival in the country and issue a bar code instead. The move comes as a big relief to the crew of Air India and Jet Airways, the two Indian airlines which fly to Saudi. Cathay Pacific ends skirts-only policy after 70 years
Cathay Pacific has decided to end its 70-year-old skirts-only rule for female uniformed staff after the flight attendants’ union won the right to wear trousers.
