Iran to open its borders for travel & tourism, starting July
Iran’s tourism ministry has said that the country will start hosting foreign travellers by mid-summer, with priority given to guests from neighbouring countries. “Based on our data analysis, Iran will open land borders to neighbours as of July 5 and some of its air borders as of July 22,” Mohammad-Ebrahim Larijani, the director of the ministry’s advertising and marketing office said, according to a report in Tehran Times. The official referred to travel demands from Oman, Azerbaijan, Armenia, Pakistan, Iraq, Turkey, China, and Hong Kong. “Apart from these applicants, we have had requests from European backpackers to travel to Iran.” ... Flydubai announces repatriation flights to India, among other countries
Flydubai, the Dubai-based low-cost carrier, has said it will start special repatriation flights to multiple cities in 11 countries with immediate effect. With the UAE government easing restrictions on travel movements and airport operations, Flydubai has launched repatriation flights to select destinations. This includes multiple cities in India. UK to impose 14-day quarantine for incoming travellers from today
The UK will impose a 14-day quarantine period for incoming travellers from today, despite strong opposition from several industry quarters. Three airlines — British Airways, Ryanair and easyJet — have complained to the British government in protest at the measures they say are “disproportionate and unfair on British citizens as well as international visitors arriving in the UK”. Under the new UK rules, residents and visitors travelling to the UK on or after June 8 must provide journey and contact details, and self-isolate for the first 14 days. India to operate additional repatriation flights from Doha
As part of its repatriation drive, India has announced additional flights from Doha, to meet demand. The Indian Embassy in Qatar has updated a list of repatriation flights from Doha to various cities in India. These flights are set to operate between June 9 and June 19. Air India Express will now be operating flights from Doha to Coimbatore, Delhi, Kannur, Kochi, Kozhikode, Lucknow, Madurai, Mumbai, Thiruvananthapuram and Trichy. The third phase of Vande Bharat Mission is set to commence on June 11 and will be carried out until June 30.
Repatriation from Kuwait to start today, three flights to Kerala
Repatriation flights from Kuwait to Kerala will begin on June 9. Only three flights are scheduled to Kerala from the Gulf country in the third phase of Vande Bharat Mission, The Indian government has scheduled a total of six flights from Kuwait to India. The first flight to Kerala will take off from Kuwait on June 9 at 2 pm and land at Kozhikode by 9.20 pm. Taj Mahal will remain closed for tourists, though other monuments get the nod
The Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) has decided to permit 820 protected monuments to open across India, but Taj Mahal in Agra isn’t one of them. The Taj Mahal has been closed for tourists since March 17, the longest closure of the monument in its existence. The list put out by ASI has only centrally protected monuments that have active places of worship. Although the Taj Mahal has a mosque where regular Namaz is conducted every Friday, the monument is closed on that day and hence will have no impact on tourism. Air India to commence repatriation bookings from USA & Canada
Air India will be opening its bookings for special repatriation flights from various destinations in the USA and Canada, starting June 8. In a tweet the airline said, “Indian citizens and OCI cardholders who wish to travel to India on evacuation flights under the Vande Bharat Mission, from USA and Canada, may kindly book tickets through the Air India website for flights on or after 11th June ’20.” The air carrier further stated that it is mandatory for the applicants to be registered with the Local Embassy/High Commission, for the same. Skydive Dubai reopens over weekend, as Marina comes alive
The skydiving centre in Dubai Marina has resumed operations at the Palm Jumeirah drop zone, with strict regulations in place to keep skydivers safe during the Covid-19 pandemic. Upon arrival at Skydive Dubai, every visitor and staff member will be temperature screened, and anyone with a high temperature will be turned away, even if they have a paid reservation. Inside the Skydive Dubai venue, there is an enforced two-metre distance between all guests and staff, and face masks are compulsory at all times. Etihad Airways lands first ever charter flight in Cuba
Etihad has landed a plane in Cuba for the very first time. The airline flew from Abu Dhabi to Havana, helping Cuban nationals return home. Taking off from Abu Dhabi International Airport, Etihad pilots flew the Boeing 777-300 jet for over 21 hours to land at Jose Marti International Airport, just outside Cuba’s capital. Odisha govt plans cruise service, invites proposals
The Odisha government has decided to operate day cruise services at five destinations, in association with the private sector. The tourism department has invited proposals from prospective applicants for organising day cruises at Chilika Lake, Mahanadi, Bhitarkanika, Satkosia George and Hirakud reservoir in Odisha. The last date for proposal submission in response to the expression of interest (EoI) is July 10, news agency IANS said. Air India has said that it would offer more seats for passengers in the third phase of India government’s Vande Bharat Mission, due to an “overwhelming” response. The announcement came a day after the national carrier opened bookings for 300 flights from select destinations, including the US and the UK, between June 10 and July 1.
