A travel alert has been issued in London, on behalf of the heavy snowfall that occurred overnight. The current weather change has led to suspending thousands of transportation schedules, that includes flights and train service, affecting millions of travellers. According to media reports, the affected operator schedules includes, Greater Anglia Stansted Express, ScotRail, Southeastern, Southern, Thameslink, Gatwick Express, South Western Railway, TfL Rail and London Overground. UAE: Rainy, dusty weather until Friday
The National Centre of Meteorology (NCM) said the weather is expected to be frequently partly cloudy with different formations of clouds moving from central Saudi Arabia towards Dubai, in the coming days. It has also alerted the citizens to take precautions while driving in rainy conditions and poor visibility due to blowing sand or dust during the next three days. The NCM also asked the public to stay away from water gatherings, especially near the highlands. UK Freeze warning
BBC Weather has warned there is a chance that “just about anywhere” could see snow over the weekend and into next week as Arctic air spreads across Britain. Temperatures in the evenings are set to push the mercury below -10 degree Celsius in parts of the country. “There is a chance of rain, sleet and some snow throughout the day.” The Met Office along with Public Health England (PHE) has an ‘alert and readiness’ health warning in place across northern England. Elderly and vulnerable people have been urged to take extra care and to wrap up against the cold temperatures through the coming days.

Fire engulfs Silent Valley buffer zone
Forest fire engulfed 10 hectares of Silent Valley buffer zone, triggering panic and causing extensive damages to trees, shrubs and the animal population. Authorities said the massive fire broke out in the buffer zone was controlled by Wednesday afternoon. Frequent fires during the summers is a common scene in Silent Valley. The National Centre of Meteorology has sent out weather warnings for UAE. The NCM reports that the weather in Dubai would be partly cloudy in general and hazy at times. There will be moderate winds in general, freshening at times over the land, causing blowing dust/sand over some exposed areas and fresh to strong winds at times over the sea. Temperatures are expected to remain near freezing in many of the southern Chinese provinces, the National Meteorological Center (NMC) said. The National Centre of Meteorology sends an alert saying fresh to strong winds is likely to continue over the Arabian Gulf and rough to very rough sea at times with wave height 8-10/12 ft till Tuesday morning. In its daily weather forecast, the NCM said that fresh to strong Northwesterly wind and rough sea in Oman sea offshore areas with wave height 4-6/8 ft till Tuesday afternoon. A major earthquake with a magnitude of 8.2 struck 170 miles off the coast of Alaska in the wee hours of Tuesday, prompting a tsunami warning along the coastline. The Met Department of the UK has issued ‘do not travel’ warnings as heavy snow storms hits different parts of the country. Yellow fever: WHO warns travellers to Sao Paulo
Web Desk Sao Paulo The World Health Organization warns travellers to Sao Paulo stating the destination is at risk for yellow fever. WHO is also recommending that all international visitors to the state be vaccinated. However, Brazil’s Health Ministry said in a statement that things are not that worse and updated map of at-risk areas, which includes only certain parts of the state and city. Chembra to remain closed from Jan 15
The tourist authorities in Kerala have announced that the Chembra peak in Wayanad will remain temporarily closed from January 15, 2018, (Monday) onwards due to the forest fire in the area. Chembra was closed down in February 2017 following a devastating forest fire, which burnt down around 100 hectares of grassland. Chembra peak is the highest peak in Wayanad at 2100 m above sea level.
