Heavy rain lashes Delhi-NCR; Flights delayed
Photo Courtesy: NDTV Heavy rains reported in several parts of Delhi and NCR today morning. The Met department forecasted spells of rains and thundershowers during the day. There were waterlogging reported from parts of Delhi on Saturday. The rains on Wednesday had affected normal life and disrupted the traffic movement in several areas of Delhi and NCR. The Safdarjung observatory recorded 24.6 mm rainfall in the last 24 hours whereas the Palam observatory recorded 19.9 mm rainfall during the same period. Tourist ban in Kodagu till August 31
Rescue-cum-relief operations are going on in full swing in Kodagu, which is reeling under rain havoc. In view of the rain fury, the Deputy Commissioner has banned entry and stay of tourists in Kodagu till August 31. In a circular issued on Sunday, DC P I Sreevidya has prohibited tourists from staying in hotels, resorts, home stays, guest houses and other private lodges and boarding homes, till the end of this month. Come August and it’s for Delhiites to observe some strict traffic restrictions during the Independence Day celebrations. Traffic restrictions will be in place for the Independence Day function at the Red Fort and on its full dress rehearsal tomorrow. At least 10 dead, 40 hurt as 6.4 quake hits Indonesia
A powerful 6.4-magnitude earthquake struck the Indonesian island of Lombok today, which killed at least 10 people and injured 40 plus in the tourist island. The quake struck at a depth of 7 kilometers (4.4 miles) at 6:47 am local time (2247 GMT Saturday), the United States Geological Survey said. The quake struck 50 km (30 miles) northeast of Lombok’s main city Mataram, the USGS said, far from the main tourist spots on the south and west of the island. Massive earthquake hits Australia
A massive earthquake of magnitude six hits Australia at a depth of 47 miles and about 295 miles north of Vanuatu’s island of Santo. There was no immediate tsunami warning or any reports of damage or casualties from the quake, the United States Geological Survey (USGS) said. Vanuatu is an island in the Pacific Ocean off the coast of Australia. A 4.7 magnitude earthquake has hit a remote part of Western Australia (Norseman) on June 20. Norseman had a series of earthquakes about 18 hours ago.

Red alert cyclone warning issued in Myanmar
The Myanmar Department of Meteorology and Hydrology has raised a red alert for flash floods, landslides and storm surges as a tropical depression makes landfall. The Met department has warned that a deep depression is occurring over middle-east part of the Bay of Bengal and the cyclone storm will land in coastal areas of Rakhine state within the next 12 hours. Strong winds of up to 80 kilometres per hour could hit some coastal areas, and storm surges as high as 16 feet could pummel the shores, it said. Indonesia terrorist attacks: 12 countries issue travel advisories
Twelve countries, including United States, United Kingdom, Australia, Singapore and Malaysia, have issued travel advisories for their citizens in Indonesia following recent terrorist attacks in Surabaya and Sidoarjo in East Java. Tourism Minister Arief Yahya said that issuing travel advisories was a country’s responsibility to alert its citizens. “Travel advisories meant a country was still safe to visit, explaining that there were three levels of alerts, namely travel advisory, travel warning and travel ban,” he said. The India Meteorological Department has predicted thunderstorms across north-west India over the next 48 to 72 hours and as a result several trains and flights are also running late. A powerful dust storm and rain hit Delhi, grounding flights, uprooting trees and bringing traffic on the city’s roads to a grinding halt, days after an alert across north India for a massive storm. 22 killed, over 100 injured in Rajasthan dust storm
High-speed dust storm in Rajasthan’s Bharatpur, Alwar and Dholpur districts have killed 22 and injured over 100 people. Eleven people died in Bharatpur, six in Dholpur, four in Alwar and one in Jhunjhunu. The dust storm left a trail of destruction leaving hundreds of trees and electric poles uprooted. On Wednesday, heat wave was reported in parts of Rajasthan with Kota recording the highest temperature at 45.4 degrees. Rain havoc: 12 dead in Rajasthan
At least 12 people died in Rajasthan’s Bharatpur and Dholpur districts after heavy rain lashed the areas. Five children were among those who died in Dholpur, as per the reports. The administration said the toll may go up. Most of these deaths were reportedly happened due to collapse of houses in the storm. At most of the places victims were sleeping, said an official from the district administration. The heavy rainfall snapped power lines in many areas, leading to outages or fire due to short circuit. Runway at Mumbai airport to remain closed
Flying in and out of Mumbai for the next two days as the main runway will remain closed due to the pre-monsoon maintenance work on the main runway. The routine exercise to remove rubber deposits on the runway will be carried out on April 9 and 10 for six hours each day between 11 AM and 5 PM. Though, the secondary runway will be functional during the maintenance work, several flights are expected to be rescheduled and cancelled. Super typhoon could flood one third of central Tokyo: survey
Areas in Tokyo equivalent to a third of its central 23 wards could be inundated to a maximum depth of 10 meters by storm surges caused by a powerful typhoon, the Tokyo metropolitan government said.
