Rwanda’s tourism sector in an upward swing

Mount Muhavura, on the border between Rwanda and Uganda. Rwanda’s tourism sector shows a positive trend as per the latest report by Rwanda Development Board (RDB). Last year the tourism sector generated revenue of USD 438 million, which is about 50 per cent of all service exports. In terms of the source of the revenue, the East African Community became the highest source of revenue across all categories with 25 per cent of the total revenue.  Europe contributed 22 per cent, while the rest of Africa generated 21 per cent. Zimbabwe makes documentaries to lure Chinese tourists

Zimbabwe is trying to boost their tourism sector by making documentaries on the major tourism destinations, to be showcased in Chinese tourism market. During his last visit to China, President Emmerson Mnangagwa signed a number of agreements with his Chinese counterpart, including a deal to film documentaries in Zimbabwe to be displayed in China. As per the agreement Chinese firm Touchroad International will bring Zheing Zhiang TV and Radio into the country, to begin filming and photographing Zimbabwe’s key tourist destinations. Pamodzi Carnival of Zambia- a festival of dance, food and handicrafts

Pamodzi carnival is one of the major cultural events of Zambia, which showcase traditional dance, food and drink, music and handcrafts. The event is organized by the Department of Arts and Culture, Ministry of Tourism. This year’s carnival is on 18th August 2018 at Lusaka. Ethiopia eyes enhanced tourist inflow to the country

Ethiopia is striving to boost the capacity of its hospitality industry and welcome more foreign tourist, said an official from the tourism ministry. “My ministry has been working with public and private stakeholders to boost the country’s hospitality industry capacity and diversify the nationality of foreign tourists visiting the African country,” said Gezahegn Abate, Public and International Relations Director of the Ethiopia Ministry of Culture and Tourism (MoCIT). Malta ties up with Bollywood for tourism promotion

Malta, a small Mediterranean Island is hoping to have 20 per cent growth in Indian tourist arrivals this year. Last year around 4,000 Indian tourists visited Malta in 2017. “With India being one of the biggest upcoming markets for tourism in Malta, we want to exploit its full potential. Second Sphinx said to be found in Egypt

Some recent news says, construction workers has found a statue of ‘lion’s body with a human head’, underneath, while they were working on a road at Al Kabbash. Tanzania to promote nature-based tourism

Stream in Amani Nature Reserve Tanzanian tourism is planning to explore the possibilities of nature-based tourism in the east African nation’s forest reserves. “The project will enrich the country’s tourism sector and open up more unexplored investment opportunities, which in turn will also enhance the conservation activities,” said Dos Santos Silayo, CEO of the Tanzania Forest Services. “We have a number of nature reserves with its inimitable tourist destinations; but they’re yet to be explored to its maximum. Oberoi Group to open wild life resorts in India and Kenya

  The Oberoi group is planning to start three resorts – one in Kenya and two in India- to explore benefits of wild life tourism. Rwanda eyes on Conference Tourism

Rwanda targets to raise revenue of USD 74 million through its Meetings, Incentives, Conferences, Events and Exhibitions (MICE) tourism strategy this year, Rwanda Convention Bureau said on Tuesday, 31st July 2018. As part of its diversification strategy of tourism sector, the Rwanda Development Board (RDB) has introduced the MICE tourism policy in 2014. It aims at providing innovative products in the tourism sector, while preserving existing popular tourism sectors like gorilla tourism, eco-tourism, cultural and community-based tourism.
