Polachira should also be included in the biodiversity circuit
There is a need to include polachira in the biodiversity circuit announced in the budget as part of tourism development in the district. Polachira is one of the rarest destinations in the state and is a treasure trove of varieties. It is also home to a variety of migratory birds depending on the season. It is also home to a wide variety of fishes. Paddy and fish farming are done intermittently in an area covering 1500 acres.
Many people, including foreigners, come here without any development activities. Paravur Lake and Malakkayal, which are rich in mangrove forests, can be added as part of this. The Kollam Canal that connects Paravur Lake and Ashtamudi Lake will help with this. Also, the wide beach is an attraction.
An amount of 25 crores has been set apart in the budget for the proposed biodiversity circuit. The biodiversity circuit is intended to include Ashtamudikayal, Munroe Island, Kottarakkara, Meenpidippara, Malamelpara, Muttara Maruthimala, Jatayu Earth’s Center, Thenmala, and Achankovil. The project aims to create a journey for tourists by experiencing biodiversity.
