The Gangotri Temple is open, but not accessible to pilgrims
The temple was opened on the third day of Akshaya Tritiya. The temple, which opened at 7.31 am, had only priests. Pilgrims are not allowed to enter the temple as the covid spread is severe.
Gangotri is one of the temples of the Char Dham Yatra. Chardham is a pilgrimage site that visits the temples of Kedarnath, Badrinath, Gangotri, and Yamunotri. The Uttarakhand government had canceled the Char Dham yatra this year and last year due to covid.
Also, the Yamunotri and Kedarnath opened. The Badrinath temple will be reopened tomorrow, officials said. Gangotri Temple is located at a distance of 99 km from Uttarkashi. The temple is located at an elevation of 3100 m above sea level. Pilgrims are allowed to enter the temple from April to October. The temple is dedicated to Goddess Ganga.
