Watch movies on Gondala in Venice themed settings at Philippines
Gondoliers dressed in striped uniforms, maneuvers and position each boat in an outdoor canal to watch full-length movies, presenting a rare chance to visit the cinema after almost nine months of lockdown.
Patron Violet Gatchalian at the Venice Grand Canal-themed shopping mall in Manila said that “Riding a boat made it a unique experience,”. “It’s also one of the first cinemas to reopen so we wanted to try it.”
Since mid- March cinemas at Philippine cinemas have been closed, when the country’s President Rodrigo Duterte imposed one of the world’s toughest and longest lockdowns. Philippines is Southeast Asia’s hardest-hit country after Indonesia, with more than 456,000 coronavirus infections and 8,875 COVID-19 deaths as per sources.
While the government has started gradually reopening the economy from June, most non-essential businesses still remain shut. The Gondola cinema and a drive-through theatre are the only movie venues in the capital city of Manila.
Gondola moviegoers may sit two to a boat, up to 10 guests per screening, and boats kept meters apart. The float-in cinema aims to lift the spirits of guests and help film industry workers.
Guests could bring their own earphones and listen to the audio broadcast at a radio frequency available only to those aboard the gondolas.
