Karnataka Tourism Minister CT Ravi tests positive for COVID-19

Karnataka Tourism Minister CT Ravi has tested positive for COVID-19. He had given his swab sample for testing twice in this past week. While he tested negative the first time, his second result came back positive. CT Ravi is now the first minister in Karnataka to have tested positive for the novel coronavirus.

“Since one test returned negative and one returned positive, I got a third test done today (Sunday). I am waiting for the third umpire’s resolution,” he tweeted.

He also went on to add he is asymptomatic and that he did yoga and pranayama on Sunday morning. “I did surya namaskar, yoga asanas and pranayam today morning. I can’t see any difference in my body nor do I have any symptoms,” his tweet read.

The minister had got the first test done on July 6 and that returned negative. Following this, two of his aides tested positive and he gave his samples for testing again and went into quarantine.

But CT Ravi is not the first politician to test positive for COVID-19 from Chikkamagaluru district. Earlier, BJP MLC MK Pranesh, JD(S) MLC Bhoje Gowda and Congress MLA DT Raje Gowda too had tested positive from the same district.

It’s been alleged that several people, notably politicians, have been flouting social distancing norms while organising grand events. Even the chief minister of Karnataka BS Yediyurappa is currently working from home after a few of his staff members tested positive.
