Bermuda to fling its doors open to tourists from July 1

Bermuda is reopening its doors to all visitors from July 1, Forbes has reported. Located only 650 miles off the coast of North Carolina, Bermuda is ready to welcome even American guests, who are restricted from entering several other countries.

But there are, of course, conditions to be met. Travellers need to have a negative COVID-19 test done within 72 hours of their flight, wear face masks and practice social distancing at their departure airport and in the flight, and upon arrival undergo another coronavirus test at the airport or their accommodation and quarantine until the results are in.

Temperature checks will also be done twice a day during their stay and mask wearing and social distancing should continue.

Bermuda is a British island territory in the North Atlantic Ocean known for its pink-sand beaches such as Elbow Beach and Horseshoe Bay. Its massive Royal Naval Dockyard complex combines modern attractions like the interactive Dolphin Quest with maritime history at the National Museum of Bermuda. The island has a distinctive blend of British and American culture, which can be found in the capital, Hamilton.

“Just 21 square miles with a population of 64,000, Bermuda has always been a precious resource, set apart by its geographic location and vibrant way of life. Now more than ever, we believe travellers will value our genuine hospitality, pristine beaches and open spaces – all accessible by a two-hour, non-stop flight from several East Coast North American gateways,” the interim CEO of the Bermuda Tourism Authority, Glenn Jones, said in a statement as reported by Travel+Leisure.

On June 11, Bermuda entered Phase 3 of its reopening plan, allowing for gatherings up to 20 people, permitting restaurants to reopen for indoor dining with physical distancing, and allowing movie theatres and museums to open with 20% capacity. A nightly curfew remains in effect and masks are required in public spaces, Travel+Leisure said.

The island’s famed beaches and pools are open with physical distancing measures in place.
