Wayanad Splash 2019 concludes
The four-day Wayanad Splash 2019, organised in association with the State Tourism Department and Wayanad Tourism Organisation to showcase the numerous tourist attractions and activities in Wayanad, has concluded.
As many as 396 stakeholders, including 116 sellers and 280 buyers including international tour operators took part in the business meet. Close to 110 stakeholders from Malabar region and neighbouring districts of Karnataka and Tamil Nadu put up stalls at the venue to showcase their properties.
Inaugurating the concluding ceremony of the B2B meet, Tourism Minister Kadakampally Surendran said the government has earmarked Rs 600 crore for tourism development in Malabar region. “A responsible and sustainable tourism development is the policy of the government and its benefit should reach up to the grassroots. Responsible tourism project should be popularised to ensure the participation of villagers in the tourism sector. More hotels and resorts should participate in the RT sector,” the minister said.
“Wayanad is a destination which practices Responsible Tourism in a proper way. More than a weekend destination, Wayanad has the charm to attract travellers for a longer period as it has many hidden, virgin destinations,” said Rani George IAS, Secretary, Kerala Tourism.
The 2019 edition of Wayanad Splash featured 16 bloggers from Saudi Arabia. The event also featured various sporting events including the mud football, mud volleyball, and mud tug-of-war. One of the main attractions of this years’ event was the fun ride of 4X4 wheel vehicles at Meppadi, organised by Jeep Club, Wayanad, which saw the participation of around 150 adventure motorists from Kerala, Karnataka, and Tamil Nadu.
