Karnataka to focus on adventure tourism
Karnataka Tourism is planning big on adventure tourism, said Rohit Hangal, Director, Sphere Travel media & Exhibitions Pvt Ltd, on the sidelines of Karnataka Tourism roadshow in Mumbai.
“Karnataka has immense potential in adventure tourism and you will get to see see many new products in this segment soon,” he said. “Maharashtra is one of the best feeder markets for Karnataka, be it hill stations, wild life or pilgrimage. This event is an effort to reach out to travel trade of Mumbai,” he said.
Hangal also said that tourists are now focusing more on offbeat destinations and activity-oriented programmes than the usual Bengaluru-Mysore belt. “Today tourists are looking beyond these destinations which clearly show that whole tourism eco-system has evolved significantly,” he said.
Karnataka has witnessed new hotel inventory in the last few years. “Between Coorg and Chikmagalur around 2,000 home stays have come up which clearly shows the state’s intent on tourism front,” he said.
Karnataka is organising Karnataka International Travel Expo from August 25-27 in Bengaluru this year. The organisers will host both domestic as well as foreign tour operators.
