Beach carnival at Shanghumukham beach begins today

The Shanghumukham beach is all set to celebrate beach carnival from today. The carnival organized by the Shanghumukham Art Museum under the Thiruvananthapuram Municipal Corporation, will also be supported by Vyloppilly Samskrithi Bhavan and the District Tourism Promotion Council.

The main attraction of the beach carnival is the synchronized lighting that strikes the shores of Shankhumukham across the shore. Every evening, there will be various sports competitions followed by entertainment programmes at night. This is the first time such an event is organized in the capital city.

Culture Minister AK Balan will inaugurate the beach carnival today at 6 pm. Mayor VK Prasanth will also be present at the function. Following the inauguration, the carnival will witness a fantastic folk song presentation by Jayachandran Kadambanadu and team.

On Tuesday, 23rd, the carnival will witness men’s tug-of-war competition from 4 pm onwards, followed by Shakunthalam play by LokDharmi group. A beach handball competition will be held on 24th, followed by mega show Madras Mail at 7 pm. The beach football competition on February 25 will be followed by a Mohiniyattom performance by Vidya Nedungadi and a musical tribute to lyricist P Bhaskaran. A beach volleyball competition will be held on February 26 at 4 pm. A theyyam performance will be followed at 7 pm on the same day. Women’s tug-of-war competition will be held on 27th at 4 pm, followed by a folk performance by Dollu Kunitha, a traditional Karnataka folk art form. Job Kurin and Ann Ami will rock the concluding day with a spectacular musical show.

The carnival features art galleries, food court, health exhibition and book fair.  Access to the beach carnival is free. The carnival will conclude on 28th.
