Canada travel advisory warns citizens not to travel to India
The Government of Canada has issued travel advisory warning its citizens not to travel to India. “Exercise a high degree of caution in India due to a continuing threat of terrorist attacks throughout the country at all times,” it said.
The advisory also tells to avoid non-essential travel to parts of north eastern India, including Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram and
Nagaland, due to conflict.
It also advises to avoid all travel to Western border with Bangladesh and Jammu and Kashmi, due to sporadic terrorist activity and violent demonstrations. This advisory excludes travelling to Ladakh via Manali, and air travel to Leh, it said.
The travel advisory also alerts to avoid all travel to areas within 10 km of the border with Pakistan in the states of Gujarat, Punjab and Rajasthan, due to the possibility of landmines and unexploded ordnance, as well as unmarked border areas:
The Wagah border crossing and towns farther from the border, such as Amritsar in Punjab and Bikaner and Jaisalmer in Rajasthan, are excluded from this advisory.
It has also advised citizens to avoid all travel to Afghanistan due to the unstable security situation, ongoing insurgency, terrorist attacks, risk of kidnapping and high crime rate. “Avoid all travel to Niger, with the exception of the capital, Niamey, due to the risks of terrorism and kidnapping,” it said. It has also urged the citizens to leave immediately out of Somalia and avoid all travel as the security situation in Somalia is extremely volatile and the threat of domestic terrorism is high, particularly in south-central Somalia and in the capital, Mogadishu.
“Avoid all travel to Haiti due to civil unrest throughout the country. The security situation could further deteriorate quickly. You should consider leaving by commercial means while they are available, if you can do so safely,” it said.
It has also warned citizens to avoid all travel to to North Korea due to the uncertain security situation caused by its nuclear weapons development program and highly repressive regime. Venezuela also finds it way in the no travel list of the travel advisory released by the Government of Canada due to the significant level of violent crime, the unstable political and economic situations and the decline in basic living conditions, including shortages of medication, food staples, gasoline and water.
