Kerala’s Champions Boat League to be conducted in August 10
Kerala’s much awaited Champions Boat League (CBL) is scheduled on 10th August 2019. The IPL style boat league was planned to conduct last year, but postponed due the unprecedented rain and floods.
The event envisages to make the state’s hugely popular boat races into a world-class experience for tourists and creating an international sporting atmosphere for participating clubs and their oarsmen,
CBL will start during the festive season of Onam in August with the prestigious Nehru Trophy Boat Race in Alappuzha and end with the President’s Trophy Boat Race in Kollam on November 1, with 12 races during the intervening weekends.
Nine teams will compete for the trophy. The winner of the CBL will get a cash prize of Rs 25 lakh, while those finishing second and third receive Rs 15 lakh and Rs 10 lakh respectively.
The boat race will be conducted in highly professional way. The event is expected to attract more tourists to the state and is considered to be one of the world class tourism products the state can offer to the world. It is also expected that such an event will ensure the financial stability of the boat clubs.
The state Tourism Department said that they are now looking for entities that have the required expertise for managing, executing and promoting CBL for the next five years.
Furthermore, the CBL will help in bringing in tourists during the rainy season, which is usually considered a lean period for the tourism industry.
The CBL will be held in the Alappuzha, Kottayam, Kollam, Ernakulam, Thrissur and Malappuram districts.
Nehru Trophy, President’s Trophy, Pulinkunnu, Kainakari, Kayamkulam, Karuvatta, Marine Drive, Piravam, Ponnani, Kottappuram, Thazhathangaldi and Kallada will be the qualifying races in the CBL.
