Kerala has been favourite destination for tourists from Telengana
Kerala has been the favourite destination for Telugu people during 2018. As per records, around 1.26 lakh tourists from Telangana visited Kerala during the year, citing an increase of 27 per cent tourist footfall from the state, when compared to the previous year.
It was informed by VS Anil, Deputy Director, Kerala Tourism Department, while talking in a B2B meeting in Hyderabad.
“Meanwhile, 13 per cent increase in tourist base was registered from the neighboring State of Andhra Pradesh to Kerala during 2018,” he added.
The B2B meeting was attended by around 50 hoteliers from Kerala, who had an opportunity to interact with 150 tour operators from the city and bridge a business between both the parties.
Anil mentioned the cooperation and assistance from the Telangana government during the floods in August last year.
“The Telangana Home Minister personally visited the State and reviewed the relief operations which helped in the revival,” said Anil
He also said that the marketing campaign undertaken by department could retain the footfall of tourists back to normalcy.
The total earning from the tourism sector is Rs 36,258 crore in 2018, compared to the previous year’s revenue of Rs 33,384 crore. With a view to increasing its tourist base, the Kerala government has initiated boat race leagues and monsoon festivals among other activities.
“Kerala aims at achieving 50 per cent increase in domestic arrival and 100 per cent increase in international arrivals by 2020,” said the Deputy Director.
