MTDC organizes Grape Festival in Junnar

Maharashtra Tourism Development Corporation (MTDC) in association with Malshej Ghat MTDC Resort, Junnar is organizing a four-day ‘Junnar Grape Festival’ in Galegaon village from February 16 February 2019.

Junnar taluka is a taluka (subdivision) of the Pune district in Maharashtra. It is northernmost taluka of the District. The area is well known for two of the Ashtavinayak temples at Lenyadri and Ozar respectively. The taluka is also the home of Shivneri Fort, GMRT (Khodad), and Vikram Sarabhai Earth Station at Arvi. Though famous for its historical places, Junnar is less known as a destination for wine tourism.

The festival aims at placing Junnar grapes yards in the tourism map of the country. Apart from watching vineyards in the ‘Grape Village’, tourists can buy grapes directly from the farmers during the festival.

When talk about grapes, most of the people remember Nashik, as it is one of the name famous for grapes. Though the grapes of Junnar have the same sweetness and quality grapes, not many people are aware of it due to lack of publicity. The Junnar Grape Festival is organized to overcome this shortcoming.

“The Junnar farmers produce grapes of supreme quality and still it is Nashik that gets highlighted. This touri is an effort to create a market for them and boost agro-tourism as well. The tour will have several surprises,” said Vishnu Gadekar, Manager of Malshej Ghat MTDC Resort.

Farmers look at it as a good opportunity to showcase their work for the tourists. The tourists can spend the entire day in the farms and know various experiments that are undertaken to produce organic grapes.
