Jogulamba temple in Telengana to be a heritage tourism site
The Telengana government plans to develop the Jogulamba temple in the Jogulamba Gadwal district into a leading heritage tourism hub of the country and is planning to attract tourists and large number of pilgrims.
Alampur is the meeting point of the sacred rivers Tungabhadra and Krishna and is referred to as Dakshina Kashi (also Navabrahmeshwara Theertha) and the Western Gateway of Srisailam, the famous Shaivite pilgrim center.
The principal deities at the Jogulamba temple are Jogulamba and Balabrahmeshwara. Goddess Jogulamba is considered the 5th Shakti Peeta among 18 shakti peetams in the country. Here Goddess Jogulamba is seen seated on the Corpse with scorpion, frog, and lizard on the head.
As part the development works, the district administration of Jogulamba-Gadwal in coordination with the State Tourism department is charting out plans to provide improved facilities and encourage heritage tourism.
Alampur MLA VM Abraham along with District Collector K Shashank reviewed a draft plan proposed by the Tourism department recently and decided to add some more development components before it is sent to the central tourism ministry in New Delhi.
Once this project is approved of by the Central government, the district administration is expecting to get about Rs 50 crore for the implementation of the proposed development activities at the Jogulamba temple.
“Jogulamba Alampur temple is a historical and heritage structure which is attracting large number of pilgrims from across the country. Not just from India, even foreigners are coming here to view the heritage and this leading popular temple. In view of this, we have planned to make this popular temple into a leading tourism and pilgrimage hub in the district,” said Abraham.
