Gavi – Vagamon – Thekkadi tourism project to be inaugurated on Feb 17

The 150-km long Gavi – Vagamon – Thekkadi tourism project, which was sanctioned in 2015, is all ready and will be inaugurated on February 17, 2019. “The work on the Gavi – Vagamon – Thekkadi tourism project has been completed at a cost of Rs 76.55 crore and its inauguration will be held on February 17. A project for a spiritual circuit connecting 133 shrines across the state will be launched on February 16,” said Union Minister for Tourism K J Alphons.

The circuit will have a host of new facilities such as trekking, archery and rock climbing. In Vagamon-Thekkady area, there will be exclusive development of adventure tourism activities like buggy walks, shooting arena, archery arena, paint ball arena, Burma bridge, trampoline walk, rock climbing, multiline walk and earthquake walk. Cycle tracks and amphi theatre will also be there in the area. Drinking water and lighting arrangements are built in the area along with curio shops. A 6-km nature trail along the pain valley forest will be another attraction of the development project besides common signage, solid waste management and walk ways throughout the project. A new cultural centre in Kadammanitta and eco-lodging facilities in Peerumedu are also part of the project.
