Tour with Shailesh: Kasargod – The multilingual land
Kasaragod is located at the northern end of Kerala, comprising of Hosdurg and Kasaragod taluks which were part of undivided Kannur District. In the east the district is Kodagu and Dakshina Kannada districts of Karnataka, the Arabian Sea in the west, and the Kannada District of Karnataka in the north. The district is bounded by the Kannur district.
Kasaragod is said to be the crown of Kerala, a land of many different languages, the history of the invasion and resistance, testimonies of historical forts, remains of innovative culture of the modern stone age like ‘Chenkallarakal’, ‘Nannangatikal’, ‘Muniyarakal’, Inscriptions of historical rulers and their practices, Lush green land of highlands of western ghat, the midlands, the unique traditions and practice of worship. Kasargod is reputed for its practice of sharing the culture and languages.
Recently, Bekal Resorts Development Corporation Limited (BRDC), has conducted a tour programme named ‘SMiLE Ambassador Tour’ as part of their experiential tourism ventures, which has started on 5th and concluded on 8th December. The participants of the event were the members from the travel and tourism industry. The event has been organized in association with the Association Tourism Trade Organizations India (ATTOI).
In this video, Shailesh Nair shows an event taken place during the tour depicting Kasargod as a Bahubhasha Bhoomi (land with multiple languages). The presentation in the form of a lingual theater indicates the issues faced by people living in the border areas of the state and how one should respect and accept the cultural differences. Also why a person living on the border should be proud of oneself.
