New bridge over Demow River to boost tourism in Assam

Assam state government has announced construction of a bridge at  Samarjan over Demow River in  Thowra Legislative Assembly Constituency to boost tourism in Sivasagar. The bridge is expected to be completed in the current fiscal year with an estimated cost of Rs 7 crore.

Sivasagar Tourism Department has initiated the formal foundation stone-laying function in the Panidihing bird sanctuary area on Wednesday, 31st October 2018. Jorhat MP Kamakhya Prasad Tasa took part in the event as chief guest.

“The bridge will help villagers, local businessmen and students, and also the tourists who want to visit the bird sanctuary and Panidihing Forest,” said the MP.

The people of Thowra, Panidihing, Samarjan, Dhaiali and Rajabari have been facing a lot of inconvenience as there is no connecting bridge over the Demow River. Kushal Dowari , MLA of Thowra said that the people visiting the Panidihing bird sanctuary and reserve forest has been facing difficulties as they have to travel long distances to reach the other side.

“Once the bridge is constructed within the stipulated time, all their problems will be solved,” said the MLA.

Mahmora MLA Jogen Mahan, Sivasagar Deputy Commissioner PG Jha, District Tourism Officer D Mahanta and many other officials of the district administration were also present in the function.
