Meghalaya to have its first aqua park

Comingone Ymbon, Fisheries Minister of Meghalaya, inaugurated the first Aqua Park of the state at Photjaud-War, South West Khasi Hills District on Thursday, 11th October 2018
Speaking on the inaugural function, Ymbon said that the park built at a cost of Rs 26 lakhs, would help in boosting tourism and development of the state and enhance its economy.
“Aqua Culture Mission-II will be launched soon in the state and it will help to increase the fish production of,” said the Minister
Meghalaya is estimated to have annual demand of 27000 metric tonnes of fish, however only 12000 metric tonnes of fish are produced. This year around 15000 metric tons of fish have to be imported from other states.
“The aqua park will help enhancing fish production of the state and our fish farmers should avail the opportunities provided by the aqua park to meet the annual demand of fish production in the state,” added the minister.
While addressing the gathering, R Lyngdoh Tongkhar, MLA of Mawkyrwat, urged the local people to maintain the premises of the aqua park and show hospitality to the visitors of the park to boost tourism and requested them not to construct new houses around the area of the park.
KN Kumar, Additional Chief Secretary to the Government of Meghalaya, Kum Isawanda Laloo, Deputy Commissioner, South West Khasi Hills District, Kum AL Mawlong, Director of Fisheries and other dignitaries were present in the occasion.
