Kakkadampoyil, one of the popular eco-tourism spots in Kozhikode district seeks the status of tourism village and to include in the state’s tourism map.  A village tourism development committee comprising landowners, local body members and investors has held a meeting with the tourism department in this regard for the enhancement of tourism in the region.

The envoy has submitted memorandum to George  M Thomas, MLA of Thiruvambady, recently to bring the proposal to the attention of the government and to conduct a proper field study to understand the potential of the region.

The MLA assured that efforts would be taken to prepare a master plan under the leadership of a competent agency within a month. “Local landowners have already expressed their willingness to cooperate with the project and hand over the required land for basic development works,” he said.

Thomas also mentioned that the unexplored hill station located nearly 50 km away from the Kozhikode city had several tourism attractions such as view-points, waterfalls, trekking paths, farms and natural streams. He urged the government should take up the infrastructure development of the spots. The committee also have plans to approach the Union government for support.

Koodaranhi village authorities said the village is in need of substantial support from the Tourism Department as the inmates of the region are mostly settler farmers and they are facing serious financial stringency due to decline in agriculture production.

“Hundreds of families have already left the place as they could not find alternative sources of income,” said the MLA.
