Nehru Trophy boat race to be held on Nov 10
The 66th edition of the Nehru Trophy boat race will be held on November 10, Finance Minister T M Thomas Isaac has said. The decision was taken at a meeting of the Nehru Trophy Boat Race Society (NTBRS) held at the collectorate in Alappuzha today.
“We have decided to organise the boat race in November. This will help to revive the flood-hit tourism sector and Kuttanad,” the minister said. The boat race, scheduled to be held at Punnamada Lake on August 11, was postponed due to heavy rain and floods in the second week of August. The Minister said the event would be organised without the usual grandeur.
Around 78 boats, including 25 snake boats, will be taking part in the 66th edition of the Nehru tropy boat race. Cricketer Sachin Tendulkar is expected to be the chief guest for this year’s event.
