Karnataka tourism spends Rs 8 crore for Dasara publicity
In order to stimulate the drooping tourism in Mysuru, the State Tourism Department is spending Rs 8 crore for this year’s Dasara. The ministry is spending lavishly for the publicity of the forthcoming Dasara festival. It is expected to attract more tourists, locally, nationally and internationally.
“Chief Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy and Tourism Minister S R Mahesh have approved the expenditure for the promotional campaigns and we have formulated a detailed project for Dasara promotional activities, aiming at attracting maximum number of tourists,” said B Ramu, Tourism Department Director.
The promotional campaigns have already begun on 27th September and will end on Vijayadashami- 19th October 2018. “There are separate allocations for publicity and advertisements both for print and visual media. Rs 1.25 crore will be spent on print media and Rs 2.24 crore will be spent on visual media,” said Ramu.
Rs 85 lakh has been allocated to make an exclusive tableau for Vijayadashami procession and to set up a stall at the Dasara Exhibition. There will be 3-D mapping show between October 14 and 19 and Rs 49.9 lakh will be spent on it. Rs 3.10 crore will be spent for various tourism promotional activities by the District Administration including Open Street Festival on Krishnaraja Boulevard, Treasure Hunt and Lantern Festival.
As per myths, Dasara or Vijayadashami is celebrated as victory of Lord Rama over Demon Ravana and also believed as the triumph of Goddess Durga over the buffalo Demon Mahishasura. It is one of the major festivals in Karnataka and attracts a large number of tourists – domestic and from abroad- during this festive season.
