Soon you can ride on a miniature train at Veli Tourist Village
Tourists including children and adolescents who visit Veli can now have a trip on a Mini train. Kadakampally Surendran, Minister of Tourism said that a Miniature Railway project was approved at the Veli Tourist Village. The Miniature Railway project, which has modern facilities, will be implemented by the State Tourism Department at a cost of Rs 9 crore. The project will become a reality within 18 months.
Tourists can travel on the Mini Train by up to 2 kilo meters. The tourism minister said that the outline of the project is ready. The train will be operated by solar energy. It will be the first miniature rail system in the country of this kind, with solar panels on the top of the train to power it.
Using a model of vintage steam engine, the train will emit artificial steam to give a nostalgic experience of the steam engine era. The railway station will be built in the traditional style. There will be a tunnel and railway bridge on the track.
The train that wade through the tunnel will arouse the interest of both the children and adults. The train can accommodate 45 passengers and the charges are decided to be Rs 30 per person.
With the implementation of the mini rail project, the Veli Tourist Village will be more attractive. The state tourism department had earlier sanctioned Rs 20 crore for the development projects in Veli. An estimated Rs 9.98 crore will be set up to construct an Advanced Convention Center at Veli. Convention Center is expected to be operational within a year.
An amount of Rs 4.78 crore is being set aside for an Eco Park and coastal roads at Veli Tourist Village. The project will be completed within 12 months. The projects worth Rs 4.99 crore have been sanctioned for development of Urban Park in Veli. The proposal is expected to be completed within a year.
