Manipur Tourism has organized a seminar on Homestays & Sustainable Tourism as a part of ‘Paryatan Parv 2018’ celebrations, at Sangai Hall, Hotel Imphal.

“The department is in the process of preparing guidelines of home stay for the state in line with the guidelines issued by the Ministry of Tourism. We are also planning to provide training to the registered home stay owners and conduct district-wise awareness drive regarding the importance of homestay development to the public,” said W Ibohal Singh, Director, Manipur Tourism in his welcome address.

“Knowing the purpose of the visit of a tourist is very important for the growth of tourism sector and homestays will play a major role in promoting Manipur Tourism by creating an emotional attachment between the tourist and home owners. Development of Rural Tourism should be the first priority for a developing state like Manipur, where there is slow advancement of technology,” the director said.

“Sharing of authentic experiences and cultural exchanges between the guest and the owner, is a distinctive feature of a homestay, which makes it different from a hotel,” said Dr Irengbam Rubita, Assistant Professor (CESD), Manipur University.

Paryatan Parv is being observed across the country from the 16th to 27th September, 2018 under the aegis of the Ministry of Tourism, Government of India, in collaboration with other Central Ministries and State Governments. The celebration is aimed at drawing focus in the benefits of tourism while showcasing the cultural diversity of the country and reinforcing the principle of ‘Tourism for All’.
